Adele is a good singer.....I've said that before. What I don't like is how they make her the face of soul/rnb, declaring her Queen by default as if she doesn't have any artists in her realm that can hold a candle. Thats a problem and I thinks what ol dude was alluding too. Black folks crowning her should know better but they fall for the good ole white hype. Would much rather support Adele than the Solange's of the world.

But I think thats because majority of black folks are too lazy to go crate digging on places like soundcloud to discover indie soul/rnb acts. They'll rather be spoon fed, take's whiteys word of being told whats the hottest/greatest thing right now. Again, Adele is good singer but she's not the best making R&B/Soul right now. Adele being white is her cheat code for receiving more attention and accolades. If Adele was black, she wouldn't even make to Top 40 radio unless she made turn up party songs about popping her p*ssy, being wasted and passing out in a club bathroom stall at 2 am.

Maybe he should ask himself why black people aren't even embracing black music beyond rap and some rap inspired r&b right now. Is it radio programming or is it people moving towards what's hot, which has happened throughout history (jazz was cool in the 40s, then rock was cool in the 50s).

Adele is talented and makes good music, I have no beef with her. Nor do I see anything wrong with people giving her crazy acolates - it happens with EVERYTHING. Right now in rap people are crowning Kendrick as if he's a GOAT. Yall know I love Kendrick's shyt but it's too early to talk GOAT lists. But that's just how people act right now. You see a movie and automatically wanna say it's the best movie ever, you see a show and wanna say it's the best show ever, etc.

Can a white woman be the queen of soul? Sure. But I don't think Adele is the queen of soul. I don't think anyone is the queen of soul right now...

I like debating this topic.. For me, it aint really about Adele as much as it is about quality black MAINSTREAM music which I think is suffering.

Nobody thinks its silly to constantly follow the formula of R&B singer with a 16 from some so called hot rapper? It aint stale? The lack of vocal range by these singers dont bother y'all? Or, y'all just dont know any better?

People are literally brain dead, dudes rant was mainly about the state of urban R&B but idiots on here read this shyt and took it as him shooting on Adele and throwing Beyoncé under the bus. What he said was 100% true in my opinion but people play that stupid fukking "stop hating" card or claim you're trying too hard to be different if you go against public opinion. nikkas literally promote groupthink

spare me the history lesson on James Faunteroy. I've known abt dude since 07. And while it's debatable to what LEVEL he wants to be a recording artist, he has released solo EP's for sale digitally. It's not all free Cocaine 80's EPs. But the stuff he's released is not the same as his mainstream work b/c he likely knows he would make more money giving his good songs away. Guy has an great voice tho.

And yeah Beyonce caught a stray....NOT because she's Black. But because she's got a big voice, can do any type of project she wants, and simply chooses to make forgettable pop music....on top of being Black. I'd be fine with Beyonce if she did a mixture of R&B/soul stuff to go along with her Pop, but her catalog is very forgettable given her immense vocal talent. She has access to the top writers/producers in the world, yet REFUSES to take any creative chances. And that's the sad part.

This whole thing is crazy. Black artists have to dumb down their music, put autotune on their voice, limit their talent, can't use chords anymore b/c we've conditioned young Blacks to think that true singing/real instruments isn't cool anymore......then a white person comes along, does the same thing we WERE doing and it sells. Not only does it sell, but Black ppl love it.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I have no problem with Adele. This is really the fault of Black/urban music radio stations and on a larger level, BET.

In regard to James, he's not a recording artist in the same light as what the Twitter post suggests. Much of what I've heard of his are demos (a lot of them of unreleased music). It doesn't seem like he's trying to go the Ne-Yo route of being a singer/songwriter and pretty much releases music because he wants to.

Beyonce does do a mixture. She's done much more than the "Drunk In Love", "7/11" type songs. 4 has some of her most soulful music especially "1+1". She even experimented with different sounds on her last album. No, she doesn't need to do songs like "Drunk" or "7/11" because her last album proved she could sell records off her name alone.

The dumbing down of music isn't just happening to Black music. It's music across the boards that's being dumbed down. The type of music that the biggest white singers are making and are successful at making sounds nothing like what Adele is making. A lot of white artists aren't even doing what Black artists are doing, they are simply getting Hip Hop producers and rappers and/or R&B singers to produce and feature on their records to increase spins in Urban markets. For example, Miley came out with a Mike Will Made It produced record and it's the only song of her's that got play on R&B and Hip Hop stations. Same goes for Katy Perry with "Dark Horse", Taylor Swift with the "Bad Blood" remix, and Sam Smith's Darkchild Remix of "Stay With Me" featuring Mary J. Blige.

that's only hte American white artists doing that. Sam Smith, Adele, Ed Sheeran....all from the UK, all super successful, to a lesser degree Joss Stone. The UK gets credit for embracing that which we in America have rejected. They just cross-over here.

I don't know how Black soul artists are faring over there, tho....

But in it's still a massive fail on the part of Black american music fans to have no diversity anymore on mainstream urban radio. Everything now played is rap, rap, r&b-rap, rap, rap etc. You can stil get a ballad on country radio and even pop radio. But not on black stations.

We have these discussions all the time on here, but we always bring up the same artists. We're still talking about artists who are 20+ years into their career or near it and comparing them to artists who debuted less than 10 years ago. It's very telling of why R&B is in the state that it's in. Where's the new crop of talent?

^^^ The Luke James joint especially is well written. Some might have issue with the Ross feature though.

Sam way I feel about Sam Smith. He can sing, but people just want to elevate a white man to the pinnacle. Esp a British White man. I'm starting to believe that Tavistock Institute sh!t is real.
