Nate Parker got his level of backlash because the mainstream revelation of his rape charge was synced with the release of a film that Black folks had largely been anticipating. He had our attention, and it was sickening to find out a brother you had hope in was so vile in his youth.

We have to be honest. Film audience research revealed that the majority of ticket
buyers for BOAN were Black women.
