Actually, I am going to play devils advocate and say Portland got the better deal, they traded away a good but let's be honest treadmill CJ McCollum and they got from under his terrible salary.
Big free agents never sign in Portland. We got to either trade for them or draft them.

They way the trade benefits the Pelicans is getting into the play-in but not the playoffs.
If we make the playoffs. We are giving away our 2022 1st and Future 1st. If get blanked in the play-in... It's only a 2022 1st and future 2nds.

2 things can be true.
1. The blazers were NEVER going to win with CJ and Dame. the 2016 playoffs should have set that. They got swiffered by the warrior team in which steph missed 3 1/2 games in the series and they were getting sonned left and right.
2. The blazers absolutely got fleeced, they could have been better trade partners than the shyt package they got in return.
