They fell behind the curve twice. First with failing to see the future of online streaming...and second with the dollar rentals with redbox.
Movie vending machines, who would have thought. Such a simple yet effective idea. Blockbuster execs gotta be on suicide watch. Pretty much had an entire industry in the palm of their hands and fumbled it.
I seriously don't understand how these companies don't at least get some equity. Say they didn't want to invest 1mill. Why not throw like 100k for 10%
We also have the luxury of hindsight while these companies get hundreds of business pitches and have to make these decisions based on the information that have on hand.

This. Hindsight is 20/20.
It's not so crazy that Blockbuster declined to buy Netflix but what is dumb as hell is that they didn't immediately copy what Netflix was doing as they started to really takeoff.
It makes more sense that as a brick and mortar national chain, the mail-order video/games model would only benefit you more as a known name in that space. Probably could have crushed Netflix out of existence.
Nah I took hindsight into account. The Excite/google thing is excusable the netflix/blockbuster imo is completely inexcusable. You have the market for a service in your grasps and another company comes in and offers a slight twist to that service and you take no interest in it? That's just bad business. They could have copied it, bought some equity in it, you have to do something
