The most important question in this thread is.... Who would be more offended to be mistaken for the other's ethnicity, a Mexican or a Puerto Rican...

Hardcore > Casual fan....It's very true in boxing.

The majority of people in here dont know enough about the sport to hold a solid discussion on boxing, so no point in arguing with yall over it.....that's why we have #TheRing:yeshrug:

If you REALLY wanna discuss it, come on over and we can go back and forth, but to paint the picture as "Bob Arum....AGAIN stops Mayweather/PacMan" is 100% not true at all.
I want to hear you flesh out how I'm seeing things wrong here outside of categoriZing folks on some faux elitist bullshyt.

No one here, at least this man, is afraid to be wrong.

“And to poach on that date, which is a Mexican holiday, by non-Mexicans, shows a terrible disrespect for the Mexican people, both those living in Mexico and those living in the United States. And anybody who does the poaching ought to be ashamed of themselves. That goes for hotels and that goes for fighters and that goes for any of us.”

You dont get it. And a lot of casuals don't.

Arum/HBO is afraid that Mayweather would agree to fight Pacquiao on the May 2nd date, back out of the fight just to pick someone else to fight.

Y'all missing it. Canelo refuses to move dates thus the reason he left showtime. Cotto is Puerto Rican and can bytch he doesn't want to fight on that weekend then what? Who else can Canelo fight that will draw?

Breh, Im not gonna argue with you:yeshrug:

Here is what's going on and where your thread topic is wrong.

Canelo Alvarez is dead set on fighting on May 2nd, 2015 and taking back Mexican Holidays. He's promoted by Oscar De La Hoya (GBP) and is the ONLY superstar signed to ODLH that isnt managed by Al Haymon, so ODLH is very loyal to him being that he is his prized possession aka cash cow. Floyd Mayweather isnt signed to anyone, but is managed by Al Haymon. Al Haymon does NOT do business with Bob Arum/TR unless forced to by one of the 4 major organizations (WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO). Bob Arum/TR just so happens to promote Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto (on a fight by fight basis).

Now, this is where it gets tricky and a little background info to state my position:

Floyd Mayweather is offered a LOT of money to fight Pacquiao, but (and rightfully so), he feels that Manny shouldnt receive anywhere NEAR a 50/50 split or even 55/45 split....and I agree. Floyd is the #1 draw in sport hands down and Pacquiao's recent PPV numbers arent touching his. Pacquiao was offered a fair offer of 40 million and a 35% PPV upside by Showtime directly to fight Mayweather (which they are still in negotiations over) and Floyd would've gotten the remaining 65% PPV upside. As of Saturday, Floyd stated he doesnt even believe Manny should get the 40 million (his exact words were he's NOT getting 40 million) and that the fight would have to be shown exclusively on Showtime PPV. The problem with THAT is that even though Manny Pacquiao is not directly signed to a network, TR is basically exclusive to HBO, so any TR fighter on PPV on another network would have to be a joint venture between HBO and the other network (Showtime in this case). That right there is a sticking point.

Here's where the statement Bob Arum made comes in to play:

Bob Arum promotes Miguel Cotto on a fight by fight basis and Arum knows that Canelo Alvarez has all intentions on fighting on May 2nd. Being that Bob Arum is the promoter for Cotto, he can easily make it work where Cotto signs the deal (which Cotto isnt opposed to fighting in Texas and on Cinco De Mayo with a 10 million guarantee per the rumor that was leaked from his camp and reported through the boxing media) and Canelo Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto happens on HBO PPV on Cinco De Mayo Weekend in Texas. He's HOLDING that fact over his head in order to get Mayweather to loosen up on his "take it or leave it" offer basically, because if Floyd DOESNT, Floyd would be stuck fighting a nobody (Floyd already said yesterday he's not fighting Khan) and going heads up against The #1 Mexican Boxer, Canelo Alvarez vs the #1 Puerto Rican Boxer, Miguel Cotto on Cinco De Mayo Weekend...the biggest weekend in boxing PERIOD and was that way before Floyd. It's also a Mexican Holiday and the #1 rivalry in boxing is Mexico vs Puerto Rico, AND it would be for the Lineal Middleweight Championship Of The World. Huge Deal.

If Floyd doesnt ease up, that fight would be made, and Floyd would have to scramble to find someone who can go against that fight. If Floyd DOES ease up, and accept a 60/40 split or a little less in his favor, then Arum would have the Floyd vs Pacquiao fight and ODLH has already stated that Canelo wouldnt fight on that day, because there's no one who could help Canelo compete against Floyd vs Pacquiao.

It's a negotiating tactic that Arum is using to try and get a better deal (people in the boxing media have already stated that if Floyd does a 60/40 deal, word from TR is that the deal would be done already), but Floyd doesnt wanna do 60/40 it's seeming from his own words. He wants MORE than that and closer to a 75/25 or 70/30 which going by both their recent numbers, isnt fair, considering Showtime/CBS Sports themselves already offered 65/35 as the starting point of the deal.

Arum is using the fact that Canelo and Cotto CAN be made (being that Oscar and Canelo have already signed the contract and Arum now has it and is just holding it as Cotto's promoter) and take May 2nd from Floyd in his negotiations to get a better deal for Floyd vs Pac. If it works, and Floyd vs Pac is made, Canelo would fight another date per Oscar himself. If it doesnt, Canelo vs Cotto will go down on May 2nd and Floyd will have to fight on another date or risk fighting a unknown to the general public fighter against the biggest Mex/PRs on the biggest Mexican fight weekend of the year.

Basically it's really Levels to Boxing negotiations.

Cotto left awhile ago but came back on a fight/per fight basis I think.

Smart af... That was the only way Floyd would agree to fight Cotto...

If only Manny was that smart.

He would have access to any and all fighters if he would've followed in the steps of Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, and Miguel Cotto:ohlawd:

Instead, we will end up watching him vs Jessie Vargas:scusthov:
