Secondly the comparison is weak when you're talking about a person being removed from society for an amount of time. Of course friends and family gonna go hard when you haven't been around for however long

Also, the narrative that black people celebrate someone being released from prison more than we do graduations is false.

99.9% of black people that are released from prison don’t get this type of welcome at all. Not walking out the gates and definitely not when they go home (if they even have one in a lot of cases).

The complete opposite is true for graduations. The entire family is showing out. It could be an elementary school graduation and you will still see the family out and making a big deal.

Not disagreeing with either of you at all. I wouldn’t lose sleep over rapist and child molesters getting locked up, for example.

I used the word “celebrate” intentionally however. I think the entire prison industrial system is corrupt and designed to promote repeat offenders. It’s a business. And it is one that targets our community in particular. So no, I don’t necessarily wish prison on people that commit crimes (dependent on circumstances/crime of course).

The overall purpose of my post was not to discuss who/who should not go to prison. I was more so responding to the narrative that we celebrate people coming home from prison more than we do graduating. Which is a false narrative in my opinion.

That nikka wasn’t even rocking jewelry like that in the video of his most popular song. He was rocking some sweats and a smedium t-shirt. Hell he usually didn’t rock more than a couple small chains from what I recall
