He's already had wins of only hundredths of a second. He's been beat at big competitions. He's had years where he's fallen short of other sprinters' season's best. In the finals in Rio he ran against guys nearly a decade younger than him who are on their upward trajectory.He probably doesnt want to put his body through four years of hell to run what will probably be his closest 100 meters final.
He's always been the star and generally used to winning fairly easily by clear margins. I doubt he could handle scrapping it out back in the pack or becoming a relay specialist like other 30-somethings like Frankie Fredericks, Kim Collins, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell. Or even Carl Lewis.
Still highly competitive but no guarantees.
His persona needs to go out on top like Michael Johnson.
