He probably doesnt want to put his body through four years of hell to run what will probably be his closest 100 meters final.
He's already had wins of only hundredths of a second. He's been beat at big competitions. He's had years where he's fallen short of other sprinters' season's best. In the finals in Rio he ran against guys nearly a decade younger than him who are on their upward trajectory.

He's always been the star and generally used to winning fairly easily by clear margins. I doubt he could handle scrapping it out back in the pack or becoming a relay specialist like other 30-somethings like Frankie Fredericks, Kim Collins, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell. Or even Carl Lewis.
Still highly competitive but no guarantees.

His persona needs to go out on top like Michael Johnson.

In 4 years there will be like 10 Jamaican sprinters who can run under 10 seconds

Even beung half a second slower your done
In 4 years? I'd say there are at least 6-8 still active Jamaican sprinters who've been under 10.
And more for the Americans.

In the final all but two ran under 10 and at least every 25> man in the race has run under 9.90. In 2015/2016 twenty-two new men were added to the under 10 club. Sixteen under 25yo.
Including 3 more Jamaicans, 2 Canadians, 2 Brits, 3 South Africans and 8 Americans.

Screw half a second, .25 separated 1st and 8th last week. Lose a tenth lose your crown.

I was hoping he would go on like Gay and Gatlin.
Gay finished 5th in the 100 and 6th in the 200 at the US trials, he didn't make it to Rio in an open race.
Gatlin didn't compete for four years. He also didn't make the 200 finals this year.

Plus Bolt turned professional earlier.

Usain should probably just do the 200m and 4x100 next year and call it quits. His start in the 100m won't be getting any better so might as well have your individual race send off in the 200m.

I meant ten more than there are today. Before yohan Blake tore his hamstring he was right there with bolt. You have all these 15-17 yeae old Jamaicans who will be 20-21 in 4 years and even a little slow down by bolt who is already slow coming out of the blocks he will be caught
