Insane. As a NY cat, first time I saw No Limit they were so larger than life I assumed they were some kind of super group reppin' the entire South.

They were a big reason we had arguments with cats from the South (Atl, Memphis, Houston). We assumed everything was the same down there just because of huge them dudes were.

As a person who grew up on the east coast i kind of agree. I didn't hear what Bomani said but I'm assuming he articulated it wrong (also didn't he grow up in houston/atlanta so still weird for him to say). I'm assuming the context is of a Versuz. Obviously Master P was a superstar who had movies, sports agency and was big enough to sign one of the biggest NATIONAL rappers at the time in Snoop. That's doesn't mean people outside of the south know their southern hits from their vast catalog of albums.

If you read the Source and watched RapCity you knew more then the average casual. I did that so I knew about a lot of regional stuff. But on the radio No Limit wasn't getting played like that outside of maybe 3-4 huge songs they had. Nobody in my area was rocking with the B tier No limit roster (mia x, fiend, those twins, etc)

I think this is honestly hard to gauge. On one hand, I agree that a large portion of their roster were almost entirely regional acts, but that's also because there were so damn many of them. There had to be in order to keep up with their insane release schedule from 1997 to around 2000.

But that being said, during No Limit's peak, we were all very aware of what they had coming out and when, and I was in Columbus, Ohio. They had a LOT of reach, so I think writing off No Limit as a whole as regional is probably a bit dismissive. But if you wanted to tell me most of the country wasn't fukking with Mr Serv-On specifically, or something like that, I can't really argue against that.

I was blown away. Knew his entire discography. Was talking about album filler like it Nas or Jay. Giving me what-if’s that could have advanced his career.

That's wild, but I 100% believe it. A lot of those B and C tier No Limit artists may not have had a lot of fans, but the people that fukked with their my music REALLY fukked with it.

Not to mention they were all over Rap City. That's how I got up on No Limit. Bout It Bout It and Ice Cream man stayed in the Rap City rotation for a while. Once that happens I can't call them regional. And that was just their national introduction. After that they had a bunch of tracks that hit the rotation.

But back to the topic. I'm not saying they weren't platinum. I'm just saying they weren't pushed like Bad Boy, Rocarella, Ruff Ryders within the industry and in the media.

For example, Mystikal had some dope songs that never got pushed, others did too. Make Em Say Ughh got the industry push and it wasn't the best song.

Actually, believe it or not, for many ppl in the national audience, that song was likely their introduction to P and No Limit.

And that song came out AFTER alot of their best work had already been done.
