I just picked up Atlas Shrugged the other day. I'm a Science Fiction/Futurist geek. Anything about future societies, societal oppression, etc. is literary gold for me. Probably why Brave New World, The Giver, and all of H.G. Wells' works are among my favorite pieces of literature.
I loved The Fountainhead by the same author but I read that back in HS

Side note- I'm currently reading this. Been taking me damn near month and a half to finish it tho. Been busy AF

shyt is a good read. A lot of the gist of it I already knew about, but some of the small anecdotal stories blew my mind.

If you have Amazon Prime be sure to checkout Prime Reader which allows you to read a large number of listed books, magazines, comic books, etc. for free. While I prefer physical copies, its hard to beat that price. It's basically a lesser version of like Kindle Unlimited that costs nothing (kindle unlimited costs like $10/month but has way more books)

Is this like The Art Of War?

Many people say it's the Japanese equivalent of it. However, I'd say say its a little more... practical for individual application since Musashi writing it more introspectively and not so much as military advice that can be applied elsewhere.

There are a couple of different translations I have the one translated by Kenji Tokitsu and liked it well enough; however, a friend of mine prefers William Scott Wilson translation. He's read both and I only read one so, take that for what its worth.

No my older sister and girlfriend both put me on to this. I'm glad you mentioned it though, the library is often times forgotten. Hell, I probably should go there more often.

I don't understand why you guys are so focused on my "one book a day" comment. I simply said that was my goal, some days I reach it others I'm just far too busy to have the free time. Thanks for your concerns, and I've noticed a dramatic increase in my quality of life when most of my free time is spent reading.

But that's besides the point, just leave a book recommendation and keep it moving please. No reason to hang unto a simple quote. It's ridiculous what you guys are choosing to nitpick at.

Thanks for the recommendations from those who took the time, I've added a few of your suggestions unto my list, I'm happy I created this thread.

P.s the quote "books have power" is so damn accurate. One book I've been searching for in particular cannot be read online, the physical copy has to be acquired. The price tag on this book is another thing that caught my eye, that book is one that I must have! I'll be buying it once finances permit me to

Why do so many bum nikkas keep reading these art of war, 48 laws of power books? :mjlol:

The problem isn't reading these books it is the reasoning behind why people are read them. There is nothing wrong with reading those books but if your not a critical reader and you like reading 48 laws and think its is gonna make you in the next Carlo Gambino then that's where your reasoning is off.

Its good that you read but keep this in mind;

Asking for recommendations on books is usless in a place like this because we all have different goals.
Some books mentioned hear have me like :scusthov:. Others like:ehh: although I'll most likely never read them.
Read in line with your goals in life. If you plan to be a computer scientists then read books on that. The if you want to be physically fit or a writer etc then read on that. Also someone said self help books are no good. We'll, I find that to only half way true. Books that make outrageously claims are usually of no help. Some have good infomation up to a point but are more a sales pitch for the authors other products. Read everything with a critical eye and keep you mind open.

You should read cognitive psychology, teaches you how the brain operates, than clinical psychology, teaches you about why people are the way they are, and child psychology.

Child psychology is most important because it teaches you about the mind of children and attachment. You would start to see that people really are still children mentally and have not grown yet.

Oh I read plenty on cognitive psychology. In fact that is the only type of psychology that I take seriously. Most psychology leans more toward a pseudoscience than factual truth if you ask me.
