Dayum, Phoenix done whooped their asses. It happened what was supposed to happen. Nuggets looked good for a couple quarters and then Jokic got tired. People shytting on Ayton what a bad pick he was but he definitely one of the crucial parts of their team.

It's the same shyt I've been saying about Wiseman. You have to wait 3-4 years to really see what type of talent they are. They need more time for their bodies to fill out and to get some grown man strength to them and with that comes more confidence and their games start to open up more. It's crazy to me when people label young big men busts so quickly when it's the position most reliant on having that physical strength that takes a few seasons to build up.

The crowd is such a huge advantage in Phoenix. It's been a decade waiting for a playoff Suns team and you can feel the energy in the home crowds. I'm also glad they're not crossing the line going at the opposing team like other cities.

Ayton can't get the 200 million max that Luka is getting (which is a good thing). You have to be MVP, All NBA, or Defensive Player Of The Year to get more money in a max rookie extension. Ayton can only get the regular rookie max. He'll get something similar to what Bam Adebayo got.

Would have to be All-NBA First team to get the 30% extra. Thought it was 2nd and 3rd team as well could qualify, but nope.

Some thoughts:

nuggets are gonna have to keep Gordon on book all series. No easy switches when MPJ’s man comes over and screens.

Suns offense is legit, and you’re going to have to concede something, but it can’t be open corner 3s. If bridges and crowder can get comfortable, there isn’t gonna be any stopping phoenix’s offense.

Nuggets missed A TON of shots they not only normally make, but work to get. Positive regression should happen, but you can’t just say those will start dropping. You actually gotta go out and make them. This especially applies to Jokic. He got some good looks but didn’t do shyt in the second half.

Nuggets lack of offensive rebounding jumped out at me. There were several shots that went up where Jokic was battling a guard, or there were more nuggets inside than Suns, and the ball just found a Sun. That’s an area I think they can turn into a big advantage.

all in all, nuggets took the Suns’ biggest punch, and didn’t respond. But a game 1 loss is par for the course for this era of nuggets teams, so we’ll see how they come out in game 2.
Ayton's come a long way from that no missed shots triple double. Monte's bad games are extra magnified without Murray. Monte is the only guard on the roster right now capable of setting up others and consistently getting his own shot. I don't think the Nuggets have ever needed Barton more than right now

The key is Ayton staying outta foul trouble. He can guard Jokic well enough 1:1 which doesn't allow Jokic to find the open man off the double. That's where this team really gashes people.

AG can eat off Booker in the 1:1 but if it also helps neutralize Jokic, I think Monty lives with it.

Funny enough I think Denver needs to get Monte Morris going and find a way to keep MPJ consistently hot. AG is hit or miss, and like you said Monty is probably fine even if AG does well.

Denver without Murray or Barton (not that I think he's great, but the dropoff is noticeable) are in a deep hole vs Phoenix's back court. 2 All Star level guards that get to shred Denver's wing defense without that pressure coming back on them could mean this is over in 5. Jokic and them carried on but ran out of gas and then it was curtains. Not enough consistent depth.

Booker went to high school in Mississippi and his car collection lets you know it.

Pulled up in a Grand National last week (ignore Jemele that's Phoenix, not Staples).

Yeah, he is a Michigan native as well. That car culture is spread throughout the state from east to west.
