Couldn't sleep last night. Read through this again. Much better than the movie.

Inception without the totem :unimpressed:

Its got the bones of a techno thriller, dream hacking mystery, but it lacks heart or something to anchor a nicca as to caring about what was going on at the end of the day. Very heavy on the concept and delivery but execution could've used some polish. Still a decent read though.

Finished YellowFace by RF Kaung recently

A quick and easy read. Her writing style is quite enjoyable :obama:

Sons of Anarchy meets Southern Noir :skip:

Cosby is good for presenting some morally complex protagonist, I will give him that.

The subject matter was a bit heavy-handed, and the "mystery" was pretty easy to unravel by midway, but the characters make everything jump off of the page.

Shyt is pretty much all violence & grit but getting to Da emotional core of sum shyt like all of the stuff Ive read from him so far. Didn't like it as much as the other 2 I read but still a pretty good read.

I got Blacktop Wasteland on my to be read list. Hopefully I get to it soon

Yeah, I read 'Blacktop' & All Sinners Bleed before Razorblade and liked those even more than the latter.

Blacktop is a quick, easy read that will keep you locked in once you start.

The other day I finished reading Bellwether by Connie Willis. Connie is a multiple time Hugo and Nebula winner and this was my first time reading any of her work. It read like a romance comedy but science fiction based and the sci-fi elements were more grounded new wave sociology based than what you traditional think of sci-fi. It was a really fun book and quick to read

Continuing my science fiction kick, I just finished reading Tactics of Conquest by Barry Malzberg.
A intergalactic 41 game chess match for the fate of the universe by two grandmasters from Earth with a convoluted history between the two.
Very unlikable protagonist and also an unreliable narrator. Looking at the Goodreads reviews I can see that it is very much a like it or you don't type of book and I fall into the former.
I haven't read it yet but I think one of the Culture books is about a chess match, and I wonder if Iain Banks was inspired by this novel

I just finished reading another novella by Connie Willis called Remake. A slight step down from Bellwether but I mainly think it was due to me expecting it to have the humor of that was in Bellwether.
What I really liked about that book was how Hollywood had replaced real actors with CGI likenesses of actors that the studios fight to get the copyright license to use. It made me think of Disney using Peter Cushing as Tarkin in Rogue One.

Interesting decision to turn inwardly when most authors would usually opt to expand and build out more of the world (maybe introduce even more new players) in a series like this. With the setting for one particular character, it's a claustrophobic read at times but I can understand why we're suppose to feel that way (akin to the character) but it sort of churns along slowly at times. A lot of processing of traumas, emotions, cycles of control and sitting with all of that. It's like a long bridge book at times....but it had its highlights too and keeps you interested in finding out what happens in #3. Might hold off on that one for a hot sec since I got others in my current reads at da moment tho.
