I guess the agent that the movie is about was actually a c00n that infiltrated black organizations?

:ohhh::francis:
Yeah that the ugly truth of it.

:what: this entire statement about the movie makes no damned sense... When it's about a Black cop infiltrating the KKK.... Cointelpro was started by J edgar hoover and the FBI to dismantle black groups... The KKK STILL exists more or les... So what the fukk is the point??? :what:

EDIT: read the manifesto post above... This stallworth guy was a traitor???!:mindblown:

only thing is the police and the feds are too toxic for the black community to ever fully turn the cheek and embrace them
Bullshyt. Our current generation is easily led by Boule militants like Spike and Angela Rye who feign wokeness while working alongside liberal elites to placate the natives and keep the neocolonial enclaves of black America stable and under control. :francis:

Holy shyt ain't this brah from the Coup

He making movies now?

Props

Yeah, and he's good at it, too. Boots Riley is a multi-talented man.

On-topic, I'm not interested in lionizing a cop who disrupted black empowerment groups by being a lapdog for COINTELPRO. Boots is right in his critique.

Spike Lee hasn't made a good movie since Bamboozled (which, to be fair, is an all-time-great movie).

I'm going to take a different viewpoint. I don't really think this movie did that much to glorify cops or make them seem like allies to black people. The only person who really went at the KKK hard in the movie was Ron Stallworth himself (how accurate that is, is up for debate). Even Adam Driver's character said fukk this after a certain point. I thought the overarching theme was not to put cops in a good light, but to highlight the same racism that was practiced 40 years ago, still exists and is being practiced the same exact way now.

Movies often exaggerate the truth for artistic expression. This movie wasn't a blockbuster and I'd like to think a large part of the audience understands that parts were exaggerated for that very reason.

Boots needs to fall back here. You can expose the system without taking down someone else who should be your ally. I'm of the mindset if you have different approaches, but common goals you should just shut the fukk up in the public sphere.

EDIT: that cheesy ass scene in the end did glorify cops taking down the dirty ones...but I don't want to digress.

Its just criticism not a hit job :yeshrug: its not like Boots is pulling a Monique or something. Criticism isn't divisive. Its the boarding the windows and immediate side taking that's more damaging imo

If you're not strong enough to receive criticism or give honest criticism of your own, then how strong are you really? It ain't that big of a deal in an industry where checks get cut for the most trivial of reasons anyways. Would've definitely liked to know upfront if true though.

I can respect this. It didn't seem like criticism to me. More like an indictment. I thought the movie up until the end didn't glorify the cops. His boss was a dikk. His coworkers were dikks. They reluctantly moved him out of records. I'm moreso taking the movie for what it was rather than the reality.

Every biopic bends or changes the reality.

But I can't really speak on Spike's agenda as of late so maybe I'm wrong, but Spike's movies always seemed like they always spoke a complex set of narratives, some of which contradict each other but I think they contradict by design not coincidence.

If he's an agent for cops, I don't think this movie was that marketing plan. If anything, I would think it could be interpreted for cops to say you don't have to toe the same racist line that many of your coworkers may have.
