:pachaha: I'm saying though...Kanye's album has been talked about incessantly on just about every form of media for like a month straight now...especially with all the cockmouthery of it in mainstream publications juxtaposed by widespread disgust by people expecting a dope album from him last week...there's not a soul even remotely plugged into american pop culture and music (which is to say, anybody that would potentially buy a Kanye album in the first goddamned place) that wasn't aware that nikka dropped an album...

in all practical terms, the publicity and attention garnered towards Kanye's album eclipsed that given to Cole....lest you think the media obsession given to Yeezus the past couple of weeks via everything from the SNL season finale performance to mainstream coverage of the global projections to ESPN dedicating entire podcasts to it to mainstays like Rolling Stone and newspapers across the country hailing damn near a new artistic milestone of western civilization..can all be trumped by Power Trip getting played on Urban Radio and the video played on 106 & Park :aicmon:

It's like people don't understand what the entire point of "promotion" is...to raise awareness of the product...the Yeezus promotional roll out wasn't "traditional", but to say it wasn't effective, lacking, or even non-existent is pure lunacy...the album has been the talk of the summer so far, for better or worse...the last thing it was lacking was awareness of the product...and far as the commercial performance, it did good numbers...ain't no reason to make non-sensical excuses for an album that sold 330k first week...now granted those sales slowed down because the album fukking sucks (or more objectively stated, "doesn't appeal to a wider audience") and Cole will end up outselling him...but that ain't got shyt to do with the "promo"

This is my issue as well. This isn't 1999 when you had magazine ads, two singles, five magazine covers, etc. the net covers promo, nikkas knew ye was dropping way back in feb/march. Kanye is one of the few artists you know when and where he's recording the fukking album, let alone releasing it.

Kanye will still go plat...yall forget his international fanbase/sales. Soundscan doesn't account for that. He'll be aite. This just signals that his mainstream/casual fans may have moved on to the next one. His fanbase from day 1 still got him.

But :salute: to Cole.

No but Ye be speakin swaghili, so why we talkin bout this washed up backpack rapper who doesn't wanna be a backpack rapper ass nikka
:patrice:
What does being relevant really mean though? "Billie Jean" is over 25 years old, Michael Jackson is dead, his daughter tried to kill herself, but when you put that record on at a party, people still rock out to it. "My Girl" by the Temptations gets spins every single day on radios nationwide even though the song was made in 1964. So explain to me why relevancy is important when it comes to someones music.

The way the charts look right now it looks like record labels are gonna be forced to invest more in hip-hop

For better or worse, yeezus will still be way more influential.

Bowie's album Low sold like shyt and a lot of people hated it, but it was the blueprint for a bunch of shyt in the 80s. Funny thing, it was also a disjointed, schizophrenic mess like yeezus.

you think born sinner will influence antyhing? :comeon:

face in it's not like there'll be less electronic music in hip hop 10 years from now.

Stop it . It was a aiight album and won't influence anything . It wasn't even that creative or deep .it was like kanyes commerical interpretation of a edgy creative artistic album ..... Wrapping about new slaves while trying to sell me the red yeezys:snoop:

They never combine your worldwide sales:stopitslime: well only people that do that are artists that sales are disappointing. Why do people keep trying to make it that kanyes album was too different for anyone but his real fans to understand :skip: both this and Cruel summer just aren't that good

:whoa:

Wasn't trying to say that the album didn't disappoint a lot of cats, just saying that he'll still go plat even if he doesn't soundscan plat in North America.
