To what you said, I posted my experiences. actually talk to some of those vets who you see doing bad and realize for every one of them there are 100 doing well.
Well regardless of how people have done with it my advice still remains the same. I would never suggest someone to go into a field that was dangerous unless they were passionate about it. But a ton of military people go for stability not the passion.

I went for the stability as well...You have 3 parties who typically join those who want to get away, those looking for skills, and those who want to serve...

I was a mixture of 1/2

Just bear in mind that their are a vast majority of veterans who do well for themselves...It's generally a trend when you look at the homeless vets only a few of them are legit on hard times....some have addictive traits.

I think the percentage to want to serve is the lowest one.

The Truth
If you join to serve and don't get ANYTHING out of being in the military.... Then you're a dumbass honestly.

Clearances, certifications, weapon training, experience, college (in or out), CLEPS (I've CLEP'd like 5 classes) , etc., can all be done in the military in a relatively short time.

This shyt isn't easy and isn't for everyone. But there's a lot that can be used inside and outside from being in the military. True, a lot of people do develop PTSD, or some type of addiction to painkillers, liquor, or etc., but if you can get out while overcoming those challenges then it can be beneficial ESPECIALLY as a black man. Just make your decisions wisely and try not to fukk up, because as a black man some of them are quick to hem you up also.

And there are a lot of crabs in the barrel too

do u want college money or do u want a cash grant or do u really wanna serve ya country? Basic Training will be a memory of fun and growth. While at your unit do every correspondence course available. Keep the condoms and and dont nut up in the first foreign piece of ass u jump in. Dont get married to anything until ya 28 years old or up and ya papers is stacked properly. Stay away from smoking weed and driving while drunk and you'll be ok.

My friend is tryna convince me to enlist in the coast guard, can you describe your experince?
I had a blast met people I consider my brothers and sisters to this very day even got to go to places like south America most of the Pacific islands and most of Asia. Coast guard is small so you will probably run into alot of the people in the service throughout your 4 year enlistment and you don't get your rank snatched for little bullshyt like the other branches. Intel and IT jobs are poppin in the coast guard I went logistics. If you want law enforcement coast guard is way to go they had just created a new law enforcement rate before I got out a few years back and it will translate well into the civilian sector. I recommend going operations specialist that way you can get a "GS" grade government job within the coast guard and make a good living for life. Your asvab scores are pretty high your too damn smart to go Army. Make the best use of that and try a different branch.

I've been in the Army for 13 going on 14 years how long have you been in?

None of what this poster said is even realistic unless he thinks movies are real.
So what exactly are you all over there fighting for? Is it not true you are basically throwing life away for rich people I'm only telling the nikka what I heard from veterans complaining about being broke in shyt my bad then keep fighting for rich people who dont give a fukk about you let the nikka die then I'm trying to save the mans life.

Maybe you just know some broke veterans. I'm quite sure those broke ones have some circumstances that they aren't telling you about.

If he chooses to serve he understands that it's pros and cons...and that he may lose his life...but he could also do that being a police, fireman, bank tailor, oil rigger, fisherman, construction worker, Plummer, electrician, etc anything.
