Well damn. It's hurts that the truth but.. Now I can't see Bama football the same again.

:to:

I mean, I still enjoy football and can see why players play. What I said wasn't really a complete way of watching/analyzing the game, just something I couldn't help but think when I was watching hard knocks.

Obviously football is not slavery, and having played sports all my life, I do understand what the players get out of it (besides money/fame): sense of accomplishment, feeling of brotherhood, exhilaration, etc.

It's just that once in a while the imagery of football is too retrograde/icky for my taste, and I think it's just one way black athletes in America are taken advantage of on the low.

If you're not a billionaire, you're not owning ANY NFL team.

if there was gonna be a black owner, he wouldn't be an American black.

I hear you but that is not really true in sports. Black folks have put together money countless times to buy teams and all of a sudden the team is not for sale.

The thing is in sports there is no law saying that you have to sell your team to a certain group of folks if it is for sale. Sports ownership is a highly exclusive club.

The raptors were for sale back in the 90s. Zeke along with some of his black business friends came up with the asking price for the team. The raptor owners all of a sudden took the team off the market and said it was not for sale.

Back in the early 2000s the bucks were for sale. A group with MJ, Oprah and Tiger were trying to buy the bucks and had the necessary money available. All of a sudden the owner said the bucks werent for sale.

In the early 90s say 1993 the cook family put the Washington slurs up for sale and a group of successful black business (bankers) men came up with the asking price for the team. The cook family suddenly pulled the team off the market.

You can see this shyt happening again and again in sports. They have no interest in black ownership unless it is some bull shyt 1% minority ownership.

Last the only reason Bob Johnson got the bobcats is because he had political connections and Stern wanted to make sure he had a minority owner. It also helped that the team was an expansion team and Johnson was going to take the majority of the risk. Folks forget that actually Larry Birds group offered more money. But Johnson's group was selected because of his connections, success with BET (selling to Viacom) and stern convinced the owners it was time for a black owner.

Also the only reason MJ even got to buy the team because he got the hookup from Johnson. MJ had been going around for years trying to buy a team begging white owners to sell their team to him.

MJ got rejected so viciously by Milwaukee (Herb Kohl), Hornets/Pelicans (George Shinn) and Wizards (Polin) after the teams were up for sale it made you realize that ownership is the ultimate white sphere. It's almost like he got too close to the sun.
We see that in corporate boards and other positions of leadership in every aspects of US society.
Obama, MJ and Oprah are basically tokens, completely unrepresentative of the reality of white power dominance.

I'm still waiting for the NFL to air out the Browns offensive line coach who was arrested for an "assault" which took place at his home last Saturday. :mjpls:

News on this.

And look......no loose ass Pro Football Talk editorial piling on with this article about his past bouts with alcoholism!! :ahh:

ITWAN.......a jay walking ticket would have been brought up in that article.

Prosecutor: No ruling on Browns OL coach until next week

The Berea prosecutor’s office issued a statement Thursday that said a review of the case involving suspended Browns offensive line coach Andy Moeller won’t be completed until the middle of next week.

Berea Police were called last Saturday by a woman walking away from the house because she claimed Moeller assaulted her. She later told police she didn’t want to pursue charges, and though Moeller was not arrested the case was referred to the prosecutor’s office.

The Browns announced Monday that Moeller had been suspended indefinitely. On Tuesday, audio of the initial 9-1-1 call was released, revealing that the woman told the dispatcher Moeller “tried to strangle me and beat me up” and that Moeller had hurt her before.

The incident took place near the Browns’ day-to-day headquarters in Berea, a suburb about 15 miles southwest of Downtown Cleveland.

“Everything about the incident is troubling,” Browns coach Mike Pettine told reporters Wednesday. “The allegations, all the information that is available, it’s disturbing.”

It's not the 90's anymore... and we're not talking about NBA teams.

NFL is all about expanding it's brand globally, and a Nigerian billionaire owner is much more of a sexier sell off the strength of it opening up a new money stream in an untapped market.

Dude I just gave examples of how black folks can't even get sniffs in sports ownership period. It is a good old boy club period. Oprah could try to buy an NFL team and a Nigerian Billionaire could as well and they would both be shown the door and told to get to steppin. That is how they get down....and always have.

The 90s are just as relevant as today because the constant theme has always been we don't want you black folks owning just playing.

Also the NBA even more than the NFL is about expanding its brand globally. No American sport has been as successful or as aggressive as the NBA expanding its brand globally.

Thank you for mentioning this. A lot of poster have no idea how MJ was basically a pariah running around city to city trying to buy a team. If I remember has was even trying to buy the heat back in the early 2000s as well.

Yeah and it was as if he was too close to the sun. I know he felt used after all the shyt he did for the league. But even MJ got his wake up call. Luckily Bob Johnson did him a solid and hooked him up (as we as black folks should do when it comes to our own). He even sold him the Bob Cats for below the estimated price.

MJ looked real bad, especially after getting publicly humiliated like a bum by Abe Pollin in Washington.
Bob Johnson lost half in his nasty divorce (his ex-wife even married the judge shortly after it was finalized). Dude had issues and the Bobcats were horrible. But he didn't realize that owning a pro team is like sitting on a gold mine... Now the Bobcats are worth twice as much as in 2007.
Basically, it was a panic sale and MJ took advantage of it... Still, it's amazing that's what it took for MJ to finally get a team

Bob Johnson didn't give Jordan any type of hookup breh...Jordan got swindled in grand fashion

Taking on $150 M in debt, is NOT a hookup.

That's how fukking bad Jordan wanted his own team... he was willing to assume hundreds of millions of dollars in debt just to do it.

But did jordan make his overall investment back even with the debt. he damn near makes billions off of jordan sales alone.. I assume he made the money back...
