These gangs have had political orgins. If shyt gets real we could see minorities and activist groups get radicalized and you could see these groups joining the gangs which would turn Brazil into Colombia when the civil war started. What I fear is if this gang violence against the state spreads this will give Bolsonaro the excuse to go full hardcore in the favelas. That rules of engagement heavily relaxed, more prison massacres like the Carandiru massacres, atrocities against favelas residents.

Wrong - the gangs support the politicians because they are so powerful. Candidates are routinely murdered and you basically have a struggle between gangs, corrupt militias, church, and military . This is why Bos was elected because out of those 4 people believe the military and the conservatives to be the least corrupt. While we all know it's naive , there's literally no other reputable choices .
Just look at who they believed Renata and she was from the flavelas !
