Definitely. I'd only ask why is this dude in particular the answer? Brazil has more parties than America's Dems or Republicans. So the voters felt this guy's rhetoric was the most authentic against the PT party's corruption?
The general read seems to be that their corruption trials tainted all the traditional parties and tanked their support. So only a dude way outside of the political spectrum and not associated with the trials could be a viable anti-PT candidate.

I said this earlier in this thread and this is what I believe too. This guy won votes from pretty much every demographic and his victory was emphatic so it’s not as simple as “let’s vote him because we hate black people”.

Brazil is extremely violent, corrupt and unequal. The system they have right now simply isn’t working and when someone comes in promising to restore order, wipe away the “scum” responsible for all their ills etc it’s very tempting. We’ve seen it happen all over the world, especially in developing countries.
Personally I don’t think he’ll be able to deliver his promises as the crime, corruption etc will still remain and then what? Interesting times ahead.

Anyway, looks like my big booty hunting trip to Brazil has been put on hold for now :mjpls:
Interestingly enough Bolsonaros' supporters would be crying bloody murder if this was a leftist regime delivering promises to reduce crime and corruption through violence and wealth redistribution.

In fact, the alarms would've been raised months ago by Trump himself calling out the "radical socialists" or "radical communists" in Brazil.

Instead we get puff pieces about businesses and people looking forward to an authoritarian regime.

That is true but the left is not immune from this hypocrisy. Look at how all the left leaning goverments in Latin America have treated a clear slide to strongman rule with kid gloves in Venezuela.

I see him doing so and easily being replaced when any weakness is exposed. Something about him seems very amateurish. He just doesn't strike me as a strong or intimidating figure.

Nah. The military will keep him as a figurehead to take the abuse/vitrol of the citizens if things go badly. He's gonna be in a protective bubble if things go south.

I feel you. You think he can survive the next recession?

I'm not an economist(though I pretend to on the internet)

Honestly, I don't think anyone has recovered from 08 (America/Europe/SA). The next recession won't be a major fall cause we never got back up.

Opening up Brazil's economy won't hurt but the corruption that lead to the terrible Olympics isn't gone and outside businesses are going to exploit that corruption.

I think he'll survive based on how he handles the gang issue.

He has the army and police behind him. Don’t be surprised if he does a soft military coup. He is about to fill his cabinet with generals.

Serious question.

Where does the CIA stand on this? :lupe:

Cause...I could legit see Langley..."fix" this :mjpls:

This is quite tragic for the environment alone. I know people say that should be the least of our issues with his presidency but it in fact should be one of the greatest. The Amazon rain forest stabilizes the planet by absorbing carbon dioxide. With an already warming world him opening up the rainforests to big business makes things extremely worse off. We are totally screwed. And by "we" I mean the entire planet. Future generations will look upon the Brazilian populace of our time with great scron and resentment.

CIA will help Brazil and Colombia do an intervention into Venezuela since both countries elected a far right wing government. CIA loves Bolsonaro. And Bolsonaro loves the USA and Trump.
