Those in glass houses. The Chinese system is literally one giant circle of nepotistic favors and cronyism, it's not sustainable long term and the minute someone less powerful or stable than Xi Jinping comes to the fore it's going to collapse. China is the textbook cautionary tale against this method of governance. Corruption is so rampant and open that the justice system is just "who can bribe me more money".
You say this as if the Washington lobby system doesn't have foreign governments and big businesses doing the same...

CCP goals are for the citizenry ...The threat of democracy/collapse actually keeps them accountable /motivated :wow:

Definitely. I'd only ask why is this dude in particular the answer? Brazil has more parties than America's Dems or Republicans. So the voters felt this guy's rhetoric was the most authentic against the PT party's corruption?

Steve Bannon....

A good article in the Washington Post by Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former president of Brazil. His fiscal and economic reforms are actually credited for the brief prosperity Brazil had in the early 2000s and also interestingly enough, he is a sociologist by training and has always vocally acknowledged his part African ancestry. In the election he refused to endorse Haddad or Bolsonaro saying he wouldn't "sell his soul to the devil."

How the unthinkable happened in Brazil

One sentence on the post-dictatorship democracy kind of sums it up: "Of the four presidents elected after the 1988 Constitution took effect, two were impeached, one is in jail for corruption and the other is me."
Hey thanks for the drop. He sounds like a good guy. Any more info on him?

There is a lot on Cardoso since he is considered the "good president" like Juscelino Kubitschek was before the 60s military dictatorship. He lived in exile in the US as a professor for a while during the military dictatorship and was good friends will Bill Clinton. I will look up some stuff.

Of note is that when Bolsonaro was in Congress during Cardoso's presidency he said:

In 1999, he followed up by calling for a “civil war” in Brazil that would kill “about 30,000,” starting with then President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. He also pledged to close down Congress if elected President. “There would be a coup the same day,” he said.
