i think you needIntervention works in some limited instances. Especially if it’s regional. Idk enough about Venezuela to comment on whether this would work, but not all interventions = Iraq
Examples of fairly succesful interventions throughout Africa: Tanzania ousting Idi Amin, ECOWAS ousting Jammeh, Brits in Sierra Leone, Liberia etc. Balkans was fairly successful.
Sometimes the use of external force can be the least worst option.
a.) experts with a a significant amount of knowledge on the subject planning the intervention
b.) a consistent policy that only changes due to a careful and close examination of factors on the ground
c.) an intervening party that has some legitimate humanitarian interests in the area in question and that will work to prevent unnecessary casualties and destruction
i dont think the trump administration (or bolsonaro administration) are equipped with ANY of that. i think their only interests and motivations for intervention in venezuela are economic (venezuelan oil) and political (leftism of venezuelan government).
in general i think any military intervention under a trump administration is going to be bad. even if the intervention was perfectly planned and executed i think his global unpopularity in conjunction with an intervention (from a country that is disliked the world over for its "world police" role) will be even worse for the US global image.
