I think it’s safe to say that those 99 people are dead by now.

Maybe if they’re lucky a handful might have managed to survive under some debris without food, water, and most likely battling severe injuries

you sounding real soft right now.

Read that there were some survivors and they were rescued. Damn this shyt must have been terrifying as hell for them :francis:.

Is sinkholes a common problem in Florida?
What other locations have problems like this? So I can know where not to look for apartments :francis:

Or is this only exclusive to Miami, and buildings near the beach?

That would be the fault of city and state government and the buildings owners, of if there's a board because it's a condo. There would have been signs over the years.

  • Gradual localized ground settlement
  • Doors and windows fail to close properly
  • Cracks in a foundation
  • A circular pattern of ground cracks outlining the sinking area
  • Vegetation stress due to a lowered water table
  • Turbidity in local well water due to sediment washing into the limestone’s pores
These things would be noticed in the building and the owners of those units paying HOA fees. They would have said something like, "Hey my stove is slanted backward. These walls are cracking and the gaps are getting wider."

If there's a sink hole, there's a chance that it was known when the building was built, the the land was still relatively safe, so they said fukk it. Now that would have been a long ass time ago because the architecture on that building is ancient. They can also form because of over development, and screwing around with the water table. There's a lot of people who have very nonchalant attitudes when it comes to regulations and building codes. These same types of fukkers, are the ones who were warned that the Texas electric grid needed to be upgraded and weatherized. Their response? "fukking liberals wanting to spend millions of dollars for some shyt that might, MIGHT, happen in 10 to 20 years. See how they want to just waste your money?!" For a building the size of this one, my dude, I can't even begin to estimate what even just the estimate would be to fixe a foundation issue. Maybe even told that the building would have to be condemned. Which can lead to a bunch of issues, because if that building has a foundation issue, what about the neighboring properties?

This is what happens when you don't stay on top of shyt, and you rest on the laurels of, cough... stick your head in the sand, that America's greatness will prevail above all. There needs to be some major investigations and lawsuits after this.

Miami has been on the verge of environmental collapse for a minute now. Downtown has been sinking and flooding for years. The municipal and state response has been a joke. This is just the beginning….
Godspeed to those unfortunate lives lost.
