It's not like Dave showed Netflix this special a couple weeks ago and they pressed the go button. This has been in the can for months. Dave was working on these jokes in early 2021, people tweeted about the JK Rowling thing way back then. They knew what they had, and were fine with it. They aren't gonna take it off Netflix. That's not happening. And frankly....I don't think anything that has happened will prevent them from attempting to get more content from Dave? More specials? A television series? Who knows. The special is doing what it was supposed to do. Drive conversation and views.

I haven't seen it yet. But I hope this is the final nail in the "cancel culture" bullshyt that people propagate. Cancel culture doesn't exist. People are conflating "cancel culture" with "people facing consequences for criminal acts or disgusting behavior." R Kelly wasn't cancelled - he's a child predator who is going to jail, and thus no one wants to associate with. Harvey Weinstein wasn't cancelled - he was convicted of sexual assault, and will die in prison. If I have any problem with Dave it's his constant conflating of these concepts. To the point he even gave Louis CK an opener slot during his last comedy tour. You know, the guy who sexually harassed multiple women and now tells weird jokes about how the PC police are out of control. Yo, I just watched the special and where’s the controversy? Dude is literally talking about the response he’s gotten from the trans community and how he has no Ill will towards them. In the process he slides in some “offensive” jokes here and there.

It’s no different than Chris Rocks, I love black ppl but I hate nikkas set. It’s social commentary delivered in a very raw manner with the intention of igniting a deeper discussion. This isn’t the oppressive times of Lenny Bruce! Anyone claiming that this is homophobic must be deliberately evading the bigger questions posed. Even if the delivery is slightly abrasive, I feel it was his olive branch. You have to go deeper than the surface and want to have a discussion when dealing with thinkers like Daves.

I think the argument is gender isn't natural. Gender isn't biological sex. Gender is a construct of society.

I've had times in my life where I wasn't comfortable in my own skin. Nothing related to gender but at the same time I didn't pronounce myself to be something different than I am and expect the world to go along with it.

Being male or female isn't a choice or something you feel comfortable with to me. I wasn't asked what I wanted to be I was born as I am and you just move on. I was born a black male. I can't walk around sand say I'm a white woman for example. That's simply not true.

One can be considered a construct, the other can’t( unless we are talking about hermaphroditism)

To some they are one in the same and to others they are separate. I'd argue that to most people they're the same thing. If the average man tells you he only dates women he's probably not talking about a person's internal feeling of what gender they are he's talking about a natural born woman with a vagina. If a person has a penis but mentally feels they should have been born a woman that makes no difference to the average man he's still not gonna consider that a woman. He may humor them and say that's a woman but he's not looking to lay up with them.
