Or scoop light/photons in a spaceship, turn it into a solid and eject it rapidly out the back to create thrust. There's no drag/speed loss in space so you could have a propellant-less drive that could accelerate to lightspeed (or more)
Fun fact. You dont need solid light for this to work. NASA had been considering this since the 90s. Its basically only useful for interstellar travel because of the weak acceleration it provides, so it hasnt been attempted in earnest yet.

But i think you are viewing it in the traditional rocket propellant way of having fuel onboard. Sadly, it would be counterintuitive to have solidstate photons on space crafts. The drawback of the traditional approach is that its very very very inefficient because you have to carry fuel or the means to generate fuel on the ship. This adds weight or takes space. And the more weight you have, the more you need more fuel, which itself adds weight. Can you see how this becomes problematic? Thats the rocket conundrum.

Though photons in solid state dont have weight, they still take space. More space means you need more hull, which itself needs more fuel. Which reinstates the rocket conundrum.

NASA's current model for doing light drives uses extremely focused lasers shooting at a spacecraft from Earth so the pushing effect of the photons will propel the spacecraft without needing to have power generation on board. There are other models which would have multiple relays spread throughout the solar system to do the pushing too.

This is a minor discovery not an invention, these cacs will fool you.
Deep space is already below freezing point, so light matter from the Sun has been getting frozen from day one before warming up when it gets to earth.

They might be almost looking at unlimited RAM, which would open us up to another big advancement in tech, provided they find a way to consolidate and minimize the required hardware.

I can see vr and augmented reality taking some very large steps in the next 20 years

Elaborate. What's the applications? :jbhmm:

Five Potential Inventions Using Photonic Supersolids

  1. Quantum Optical Computers
    • Use: Computers that process information using light-based supersolid circuits instead of traditional silicon transistors.
    • Benefits: These would be exponentially faster than today’s computers, consuming less energy while solving complex problems in AI, cryptography, and simulations.
  2. Ultra-Precise Gravity Sensors
    • Use: Sensors based on photonic supersolids could detect tiny gravitational changes with unmatched accuracy.
    • Benefits: Applications in earthquake prediction, subterranean exploration (finding oil, minerals, or hidden structures), and space travel (mapping gravitational fields of planets).
  3. Frictionless Optical Transport Networks
    • Use: Fiber optic networks enhanced with supersolids could transport light signals without loss or distortion over vast distances.
    • Benefits: Enables instantaneous, high-speed global communication, powering the next generation of the internet, low-latency VR, and holographic conferencing.
  4. Next-Generation AI Chips
    • Use: AI processors that use supersolid photonic circuits to perform brain-like calculations with light instead of electricity.
    • Benefits: Lower energy consumption, faster AI training, and devices that can learn in real time without cloud computing, making AI more efficient and self-contained.
  5. Holographic Data Storage
    • Use: Supersolid-based optical memory that can store vast amounts of data in three-dimensional holographic structures instead of traditional 2D hard drives.
    • Benefits: Petabyte-scale storage in a compact size, instant retrieval speed, and resistance to magnetic and electronic degradation, leading to near eternal data preservation.
Each of these could redefine industries, from computing and AI to telecommunications and space exploration, bringing us closer to a more advanced, efficient, and interconnected world.

I'm not an engineer of any kind outside of music mixing, but with my basic understanding of computer and internet technology, I think it's safe to assume in simple wording that we would eventually be able to do more computer based activities with less effort and time.

Supercomputers become more efficient, transfer of information becomes almost instant (more than now), memory capacities grow exponentially, public assistance and general leisure seeing leaps in development, etc

Depending on who and what companies have access, we could be looking at the Jetsons future from the 90s. Public opinion and government interference would be the only hindrance.

AI learning and freedom of usage should be a big concern though and it should be talked about often. The thing about that is those groups aren't going to want to full release their research and development until they come up on something crazy, and by then it could be too late

That's all speculation though, coming from base level assumptions made by a nikka with a basic understanding of most of these technologies. Sure I probably know a lot more than I thought about while writing my reply, but I think it's best start at the bottom anyway when talking about future possibilities

Nice. Basically what I said, but I'm not chatgpt

How far is considered deep space? Is it further than we are from the sun. If not, I don't think that matters that much. Still a huge development in the world of science either way

So we can freeze light, then get inside of it, then unfreeze it so we can travel at its speed? :ohhh:
