Yeah, I'm sure. The southern states are indeed more "emphatically racist," as Broke Wave put it, than the northern ones.
Watch they gonna bring up the NYPD or something.

Why is Clarence the way he is?
Because hes a full out c00n.
why do you have to hurt em like that ma?
Nobody should be mad about this.
Some of the most gerrymandered states in the country right now, including Maryland, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, etc. are not subject to preclearing at all, simply because they don't happen to be in the South.
So yeah, I'd say judging states on criteria from 1968 is pretty fukking stupid when clearly the problem is national.
Y'all need to stop your bloodclot crying.
We are considered 'refugee's which is why this VRA keeps being ratified every 25 years.
Oh so I guess we can adjust the second amendment to get with the times as well?![]()

Stupid comparison.
There's an entirely different process to amending the constitution than amending a law. The Voting Rights Act isn't an amendment.
Also, gun ownership is considered a substantive right. Voting is also a substantive right, but this decision has nothing to do with voting per se, so much as the procedure for regulating the manner of voting. The goal of that procedure is to prevent racism in voting, and considering how most of the top gerrymandered states in the nation aren't subject to that procedure, I'd say that it fukking failed.
So I repeat, it's stupid to base preclearing on criteria from 1968. Congress needs to make title 5 apply to the states where preclearing is needed most. Not just southern states. Get me?
i agree with you but legally speaking voting isnt a right, i know it sounds bad but its true, the constitution doesnt say anything about the right to vote
but its treated as a right nowadays and it should be treated that way
I'll make it even easier for you. Here's a map of states subject to preclearing:

Now, here are the most gerrymandered states:
Which States, Districts Are Most Gerrymandered?
See how many of them AREN'T subject to preclearing? Like, at all?
Stupid. Criteria.
The argument against the Voting Rights Act is that it unfairly punishes the south for its racist past. Look, we're not saying there arent racist in the North. We have some of Americas *best* racist, but the South is still the Michael Jordan of racism [ ] And when youre Michael Jordan youre going to draw the double team and thats what the Voting Rights Act is; a backup defender for when racism beats the first guy off the dribble. - Seth Meyers
