If you had to identify an official religion in America it would be money, I think. The vast majority of young people I speak with go to school "to get a job and make lots of money." Money is where Americans find meaning. We value ratings and record sales, big ballers, etc.

And, if we allow money to dominate nearly every other aspect of our culture, who should we be surprised when it dominates politics?

I could be wrong, of course. Just a feeling I get.
Ya I feel you.
But the difference is, it is just like marijuana.
You smoking only affects your body, not others.

You revolving your life around money, which only affects you & your family, should not be considered the same as legislators for hire, that we put in office to serves us, who accept money that affects well over 300 million people.

People want free college, free healthcare, cheaper transportation and prescription drugs. They also want players of sports to be more about the love of the game instead of their next contract, movie talent to do projects for the art and not the money. So no, they don't like money being the 'primary consideration' for these things.
Whatever idealistic notion you might have of artistic integrity in movies, for example, is negated by the reality of what movies actually do numbers in America.
People wanting free stuff is very specifically about money.

People wanting free stuff is about not wanting money be the primary consideration. They want healthcare to be the primary consideration not how much it costs. They want education to be the primary consideration not how much it costs. Hopefully you get the picture.

Yeah, I hear you. I think it's bigger than that, though. I'm not sure if it only affects you and your family. If the entire culture places money as the marker of happiness then politics are going to reflect that, I think.

In societies where religious piety is valued at a premium, their politics reflect that, etc.

Are you this condescending in real life, or only on the internet?

Do those same people want to absolve themselves of the good things that money provides, also?
Or do they just want to preserve more of their money for use in more enjoyable areas?

People want free stuff because it gives them more money to spend elsewhere.

Every example you're using for free are actually things you want subsidized by your taxes.

Again,we're talking about money.

Yeah both.
I don't know what you are talking about. Money is the cost of things companies, governments, non-profits and individuals provide things.
Yes, they want to preserve their money for more enjoyable areas.

Regardless, this is getting too abstract. The main point is money in politics. Are you arguing you are fine with it or do you want publically Funded elections?

I'm not fine with it. I think it's a problem, but a problem with very difficult and abstract solutions. Solutuons we will likely never achieve. It's deeper than a few corrupt politicians or parties.

That's where we differ. America tries far more difficult and sometimes heinous things no problem. But some common sense issue or something that actually helps people our government is all like, 'it's so difficult, too expensive or some other lame excuse'. Don't fall for their excuses, that's all they are.

Where we differ is you ascribe all of America's problems to some mythical "they", and see yourself as the representative of all that is the solution to those problems.

And, frankly, trying to discuss things with you is a waist of time.

Mythical?! I'm talking about our presidents and Congress and in some cases Supreme Court. All very real.
Nothing I prescribe is even original, other countries have the shyt (free college, healthcare, publicly funded elections).
Why would you say that while actively discussing things with me?
