My brother in law wife just quit her job as a teacher in NYC. Said between the ridiculous bureaucracy and the expectations they place on her (using her own money for supplies, etc.) burned her out and she's only 29.
Her main issue was that no matter how much she tried to teach the kids (5th graders), if parents at home were not making sure the kids practiced what they were taught during the day, it would all go through one ear and out the other.
You can't be a teacher and a parent in a 7 hour day, it's impossible. Granted, some people work mad hours to make ends meet and probably are unable to sit with their children in the evening. The system is broken.
In-law, but more loosely tied.Pardon me, yet would that not be your sister?

People in this very thread saying teacher had no right to touch her property...Also toss in the new wave of parents.
The parents from my generation sided with the teachers when kids got in trouble. This new wave of parents are trying to get teachers fired if you even give them a 'C'
