I don't love the pick. You can talk about Kaine fighting racism all you want, this pick does not appeal to the progressive crowd. This further alienates most of them from the party and some will either stay home or a few WILL jump ship over to Trump. I don't know if I'd go as far to say that this will cost her the election but my point is it does not help matters. It's a "safe" pick sure but she needed to think a little outside the box and did not.

She's not capable of thinking outside the box. She's all about conventional establishment thinking.
His is a snub to the progressive wing, but to be honest, VP picks rarely change the trajectory of a race.
She made the calculation, rightfully so, that progressives will fall in line cause none of us can tolerate a Trump presidency.
He's gonna win her virginia and Florida.

Trump can win this without Virginia and Florida but he would need Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and to flip New Hampshire. Too much for his campaign to ask?
