Huge BMW plant in upstate South Carolina. Mercedez also has plants here.

Don't know if the Tariffs affect the parts that are imported though or just the final product.

They will affect everything. At least 50% of those parts are manufactured in Mexico and Canada. There's no such thing as an "All American made vehicle" and these tariffs are just a tax on everyday Americans. There's no end game to it.

That was a big part of it but the major factor was lower wages and less regulation. And companies can then turn around and then sell those vehicles for a huge markup in the US market.

The only reason Japanese, Korean and European auto manufacturers built plants in the US in the first place was to avoid tariffs.
:yeshrug:
If you want access to this market be prepared to pay the costs. Or sell your shyt elsewhere.

If the demand wasn’t there then the foreign brands wouldn’t have fought so hard to enter this market.

People just wanted a reliable car. Something US brands could not deliver. US companies need to be forced into product improvements through regulation, while Japanese brands were improving without being forced due to the want to provide a better product.

Tariff or not, people have shown they will pay more for a Japanese car than an American one because they know it will last.

This would have never been an issue if US manufactures didn’t make trash cars. That’s the whole reason Americans went to foreign brands, because US brands made unreliable trash.
Overpriced unreliable trash….. it’s like these cocksuckers didnt learn shyt

How are you going to start winning America is following the footsteps of Russia by isolating themselves. Russia pretty much doesn’t have shyt to offer other than some dusty nukes. Trump is trying to take the country back but you can never go back. The world is always moving forward and if America want to lead in the world they have to introduce something in the world that everyone can benefit from. Like how they did with the auto industry.
That could have been AInbut jackasses like Zuckerberg gave a bunch of models away for free, probably to protect their outdated social media investments.

it's not technically bad. let's be honest, Dems can't exactly hammer Trump on him trying to bring manufacturing jobs to america. it's a pro-american worker policy

trump's problem is that he's all about short term results, and effectively putting this in place is a very long-term effort :dead:

this is gonna be a fukkin disaster for consumers in the short term, and he'll have no way to spin high prices
Short term , I'll bet you in 10 years that GM , Ford & Stellantis show no progress on Electric, hydrogen or any other alternatives in vehicle manufacturing.

Spoiler: they won’t be returning!
Exactly. A lot of people seem to miss that Trump's tariffs precede large corporate tax cuts (with no pro-worker strings attached), which will be used to keep those jobs off-shore, because it would still be cheaper than re-shoring.

I’m not even opposed to tarrifs. I think tarrifs can be good for workers. But why does everything have to be so dramatic and chaotic with this Neanderthal. It’s like you have to give the system time to absorb shocks like 25% tariffs for our two biggest trading partners. It’s the same way I feel about NATO. Not the biggest fan. But you can’t promise to provide security for a whole continent and just pull out at the last minute to appease their biggest enemy.

It’s madness.

Nah , the government can go to war for these corporations & they can demand that they bring back manufacturing or exit the United States & set up shop somewhere else

Bringing back manufacturing to the United States will make the prices higher if anything. These corporation make more profits overseas than in their own country. That’s what dumb maga fails to realize.

Universal healthcare & lower energy cost will incentivise those companies to come back

They can’t do it overnight is my point. Building a new car plant and staffing it is a huge capital expense. It’s not some shyt that you do because an orange Neanderthal woke up one day and decided to slap 25% tariffs out of nowhere.

You are also not accounting for the jobs that will be lost because other countries slap retaliatory tariffs and drive down demand for American autos.

Care to guess the export markets for U.S companies? Canada, Mexico, China, Europe. All the places the Neanderthal has decided to start a tariff war against.

There is a reason why Detroit is against this Wily E Cayote straight from ACME tariff idea.
