I can attest to how much of a short distance that shyt looks in real life. My boy had a lake house and we pretty much spent every summer there.
There's houses right across the lake so when you you stand on the shore you're like "
I can do that!"
You get in that water and swim out.....it's a long daunting swim back. We tried that and did that. Fortunately none of us died thinking we were invincible or we could tough it out.
We had actual swim lessons too, grew up swimming every summer, pools, the lake. Even cats that long distance swim have dudes in a canoe next to them so they can stop, hold on and catch a breath.

It looked like he could swim (somewhat), but fatigued and drowned. Swimming is basically all resistance. If you haven’t been swimming regularly you aren’t just going to get in some water and swim distance. He also probably didn’t know how to effectively tread water, but if your muscles are really fatigued even treading water is a Herculean task. RIP to the breh.

Jumping in to save someone from drowning without a buoy or a life vest is a death sentence. They will inadvertently drag you underneath water to prevent themselves from going back under. It's why life guards always have those buoys for people to grab onto so they can float above the water.
