A lot of people thought he could have been an elite talent under the RIGHT organization. The Raider were not that. Like all the tools were there but he needed development.
He's the reason for the rookie cap change. However, yea he would have benefitted from that as well. Too much money too soon. Yea I wonder what his career would have been like elsewhere.

I still believe he wasnt off to that bad of a start under Lane Kiffin. Once they fired him, hired Cable he seemed to really spiral outta control.

He had too many leeches around him and in his family

Had he followed protocol by staying in the bay area and wife a blond white woman he wouldve been more focused.

He kinda reminded me of a less disciplined McNabb. But that draft was incredibly weak at QB. Like after JaMarcus the 2nd best QB was ummm Maybe Kevin Kolb.

It's tough because he was the golden goose especially coming from a poor community in Alabama. People forget he was a star basketball player and track and field prospect in high school. He clearly saw sports as a means to feed his fam and friends. That's why I don't laugh too hard at him vs other NFL busts.

Can you blame Al :wow:

Nikka like a mix of Cam, Randall Cunningham and Mahomes throwing the ball :ohlawd:

If breh just had the love and passion for football :mjcry:

I think Al was mad he missed out on Vince Young the year before.

So much wasted talent :mjcry:

Sadly even by the time he got to the Raiders he wasn't as mobile because of the weight gain

I seriously don’t remember. Was he considered a reach or out of nowhere pick at the time?

those LSU highlights are ridiculous.
He skyrocketed his final season at LSU, kinda like Joe Burrow. For Russell though, it was about his ungodly physical tools.

If he had the same drive as Wilson, Mahomes, Brady, Manning, Lamar, he woulda won multiple MVPs; he'd still be playing.

this was the main attraction. I dont think lack of drive alone killed his career, although it was the biggest contributor.

this was only 4 years after kyle boller was selected for his arm strength, so scouts were still salivating over big armed qbs

As I mentioned earlier....Al was trying to make up for the year before.

06 he was waiting for VY, but got Huff
07 he wanted his QB since he missed out on VInce (Rookie of the Year)
08 he wanted to his college great RB after missing out on AP (McFadden)

Obviously Vince would have his issues as well although I dont think Fisher helped.

VY/Adrian Peterson or Calvin Johnson would have been an interesting and obviously better duo :ehh:

:mjcry:

If he was pressed for a big armed QB he could’ve traded down and got Cutler instead of drafting Huff who of course also became a monumental bust. Hell, I would’ve even took Leinart I always thought he got a raw deal in AZ. You draft a QB the year before and get AD the following year. Then in the McFadden draft get a receiver. We ain’t even hardly utilize DMC in any wildcat formations. :beli:

But that’s my issue, playing catch-up instead of moving on and just selecting the players that will provide the most impact. It’s forever a raider trait to either be a step behind drafting or get rid of a player that you end up needing to compensate for later. As an organization the Raiders have been beyond stupid, Bill Callahan’s words were an understatement. :snoop:

Al and Dr. Buss are a bit similar except Al was a true football liter whereas Doc was a fan of basketball and had money. Both had tremendous knowledge on how to run a franchise but Al’s genius turned against him in old age because he relied on that over other people whereas Doc never lost sight (Jim Buss era aside) of having the best people around you. Hell even how they brought their sons in the game different, Doc to a fault gave his son power and freedom and a position whereas Al shytted on his son in staff meetings. :unimpressed:

Lol you can’t tell me shyt breh this is years of hurt over here. We was supposed to have AD and he was supposed to usher in a new era of tough, hard nosed, never say die Raider football. fukk it, at least my QB was so icey.....:jawalrus::francis:

Sam Bradford was the reason for the Cap change. When he got that guaranteed 50 million dollar contract NFL veterans were furious.

Yea I'm surprised Al didnt go for the Heisman pedigree (Leinart) or the big arm QB (Cutler) seemed like Al type moves.

I guess he was really buying that Huff hype that he was the next Ed Reed :francis:

So in reality...it was the Huff pick that put Al in position to draft JaMarcus. Cutler/Calvin Johnson :whoo:

I can see @Trojan 24 drunk every game watching them throw bombs down the field :pachaha:

AP in a Rader uniform would have been iconic tho. Must have jersey

Instead we drink to ease the pain :mjcry:

And Huff fukked me twice, making the big play against USC in the Natty then not doing much on the Raiders :damn:

Breh, I kept fantasizing about that AD Raiders jersey leading up to the draft. All the crazy stories outta OU about his workouts had me thinking he could be our own Kobe and raise the mentality of the team.

Cutler and Megatron would’ve been insane too. I wanted Leinart, AD, and then best receiver after that. Hell DJax went second round so we could’ve got him but I think that’s the year we reached for Thomas Howard (RIP) I liked him but we could’ve got another 3rd rounder and got him and Kirk Morrison both.

shyt sucks. I would’ve gave anything in those days to have the power to actually build those mid/late 00s Raider squads.

Instead we drink to ease the pain :mjcry:

Swear I’m so bitter....:wow:

fukkin feggit stopped LenDale on that 4th down and went on to be some trash on the Raiders. Bet if he played basketball he would’ve been fukkin with the spurs he just strikes me as that kinda shytbag. :beli:
