YEa I would def look northI mean if you're willing to go to Long Island which is expensive, you got White Plains, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, etc right there that is a similar price
The benefit is that Westchester is a more direct line to Manhattan with subways and Metro North going straight to Manhattan for fun. Plus there's a better concentration of Black people in that area. And cheaper ways to have fun with all the parks, outdoor activities, and water ways. Plus no fear of floods because its at a higher elevation
Not saying its the best place in the world, but its something you can look at
Plus the traffic on Long Island highways are unbearable![]()

I would advise against it. You are isolated on an island and weather is getting worse. There is extreme racism especially in Suffolk county, Nassau too.
there is EXTREME poverty and drug use in the lower income parts of LI and gang violence. Not to mention the loads of illegals that form gangs out there that work the farms. Add in all the biker gangs and cops that live out there. LI ain’t a good bet for raising a black family.
you have a better chance at peace and less racism in NJ. Also NJ has by far better school systems than LI.
Naw...being a BK head, any time I hear the BX I'm conditioned toBut I have read that Riverdale, Pelham, and Throgs Neck are some nice areas. Open to any and all sound advice at this point.
This.Long Island and racism are
All I can say is good luck.
This too.im from Queens and all my coworkers have bought houses in LI and NJ. they all commute about 3 hours PER DAY.
fukk that.
id rather leave NYC altogether than live in my car/train/bus for 15 hours a week![]()

This.
I wanted to move out there i just moved out of NYC instead for a job.
This too.
fukk that...and fukk being on tbe LIRR for hours on end just to go to and back from the city.
Bruh, I myself am also from BK and moved from the Flatlands area. I actually moved to Riverdale like 5 yrs ago. Just like you I neeeeeeever thought I'd live in the BX, but my wife works in the BX and it just made her commute easier. Surprisingly my commute to the city for work was much quicker from up here via the metro north. We bought a nice 2-bedroom apt. up here and had a kid. The area is exactly the kind of place you'd want to raise a family. It's like its own world up here. Feel safe, good schools, very green, friendly people and half hour commute to the city. Me and the wife are trying to move into a house at this point though and homes over here are pretty pricey. We want to grow the family and at least give our kid a yard and extra room to play in. I also will be working from home until the end of the year, office space is necessary at this point for me. We are eyeing Jersey or Westchester. I've gotten used to the suburban vibe up here and love being pretty much on the water.
I do remember getting a ticket like once a month driving and trying to park by L train in Canarsie when I couldn't find a space on alternate side parking days....Oh another thing, the part of Riverdale I live in doesn't have alternate side parking.
Yeah I actually rode through Staten Island for like the 1st time ever about 4 years ago...shyt reminded me of upstate- whats the word? Very bucolicpretty sad cause Staten Island actually looks pretty
