sometimes they buy back the super high mileage examples in exchange for a free new one, it's invaluable to the engineers to tear it down to its smallest parts and check them for wear/lifespan

Wish I knew this with one of my old civics. I took it to 300K with the OG engine and transmission.

The only reason I got rid of it was because my ex-fiance demanded that I did smh. Paint was chipping and the steering wheel cover was peeling off.
