I'm not completely against the IDEA mind you but my last name is important to me as it is something my father would use since I was young as a means of motivation for me to achieve and succeed. Any time I was down about something or struggling he'd say "I know you can do this, what's your last name?" And you were supposed to say it back with enthusiasm and pride.

I don't know. My mom took my dad's last name when they married, and when she was older said she wished she hyphenated, but she only says that because it's more popular now that it was in 1978.

My older sister hyphenated. My sister in law didn't. So I have examples of both.

Hopefully I won't ever have to make that decision.

I honestly don't know. I actually like my whole name. I would make sure to end up with someone who wasn't threatened if I kept it and left the decision up to me.

My last name is awesome, and goes very well with my first name. I wouldn't change it plus it'd be like honoring my father who died when I was pretty young.
