One of my old bosses is a 38 year old divorcee making $14 an hour
and is content playing Xbox Live on his days off and spend his time
with young people at his job.


To him, his current job is his dream job.



If people enjoy their jobs, I see no reason to disparage them, however
if you're complaining about it and aren't making the moves to improve then..

After the 08 crash, a lot of "entry level" jobs stopped being learning jobs though.

What used to be 3 jobs became one so college grads were SOL cause business held all the cards in hiring and could wait for the exception.

You have to be supervising someone or managing something.

And NEVER stay at a job more than 3 years if you haven't been promoted at least once. Otherwise, hiring managers will look at you

I've been literally trying to push some of my employees to leave for the past year. It's sad to see someone who is in their mid 30's making $11 an hour with no career path or aspirations while working at the same job for 8 years

Most jobs, especially in lower pay scales, age like milk. A job that pays $11/hr today will probably be worth less after inflation or replaced by automation in 10 years.

I disagree with the OP that you have to manage to get ahead though, that is how they trap nikkas. People don't realize for the most part management = babysitting. @ relying on other people doing their jobs to do yours I love the IC life.

But I agree that you have to keep moving and hustling.

You do it for the title and experience. But again, it all depends one what you're trying to do. At the end of the day, if you're working for a company, why not try to move up to a position that is recession proof. The higher you go, the more you can network. If you use linkedin, it helps to put the title on your resume.

True. Mine asked for 3 years experience, and associates, etc minimum. Had none and got the job, but many of the positions were worded much the same in descriptions.
I guess the bottom line is apply anyway and hope for the best, cause what is on the descriptions is a laundry list that would require higher pay if they really got who they
asked for.

Nothing op stated has anything to do with being black. I don't know how this post got all those daps- getting your career off to a great start young, has nothing to do with interracial marriage.

It's common sense that the younger you start your career the better. Your uncle finished nursing school at 54 -that's great so did a gang of my aunts, uncles, and step mom.

That isn't gonna stop them from advising their children to finish school while they're young- no one wants to be that old nikka making entry level money with a family of 5 to take care of.
