I've been monitoring mine lately and my goal is 6,000 per day....that IA about 3 miles a day. But that's for exercise. It doesn't include the walking I do to and from work and at work. 
I've been doing 9000 to 10000 since Friday. Imma bout to aim for 5 miles of exercise a day now.
