I disagree with some of this. Rihannas is levels more talented than Britney Spears first of all. To say she has no talent is kind of absurd. The fact that she's extremely pretty and west Indian helps a lot towards her world wide appeal. Like dude said the powers that be couldn't turn just anybody into a mega star. Look at Tierra Marie. Gorgeous and also was on Def Jam yet she's lucky if she could make it big in porn at this point. Also I don't think live performance ability really matters for a pop artist like Rihanna. Her fans don't give a fukk. These sheep wouldn't even know if she lipsynced every word of every song. Did I mention she's attractive? Like an Adele could actually eat in the pop world? Hahahaha not a chance. The power behind these big acts obviously is a huge factor but they do need to find the right "puppet" first

They're working on it. It's not always guaranteed to have an equal level of success. Artists are tested in markets and further support beyond that is essentially earned when they show to be efficient and effective with the resources the go into pushing them

Example . . Rihanna and early Madonna - very similar in marketing plans. Labels don't create an entirely new marketing plan for every artist, they already have established working plans for various artists. They slightly alter these plans to tailor it a bit closer to the artist and then they give it a try.

Katy Perry and Beyonce both make self-esteem pop . . but they can both be marketed to two different markets . . but because of the similarity between their content they can easily overlap

there's an artist in the Bay Area that an individual I know of was involved in trying to launch . . . almost a complete opposite of a situation - where as

"Young Thug" is a term that could be used as a connotation in the Atlanta gay communities (thug is a certain type of gay male)

the artist this individual in San Francisco tried to launch, in a very manufactured way, was called "(insert adjective here) Stud" - a term used for a certain type of gay female

. . so ya . . it can go either way but it wouldn't be unheard for someone to be given their name . . especially by the interests who seek to invest in the branding of said name
