Personally, I don't have an issue. Partly, because I live in Philly, which is a large city with a huge black population and also have access to multiple cities within two hour drive-NYC, Baltimore and DC. And I have no issue dating someone who lives in another city. Sometimes you have to take the game on the road.
In fact, just got back from a weekend spent in DC. Just enjoying the sites with my girlfriend. But in years past, I've dated a chick or two who lived in DC. Since it's a quick bus, train or car ride, it worked out as far as timing.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. What does this mean in regards to finding single, childess black women?
It means refining the market and then pin-pointing where these types of women tend to move in their habitat. Also, if you are male counterpart of what you're trying to find, single-childess-educated-black male, then you tend to run into these women since you probably hang out in the same spots and like doing similar things.
If I was single right now, I'd add charity events to my repertoire. In addition to the things I already did like going to nice bars/restaurants downtown, going to events geared toward black professionals i.e. Black MBA events, Frat/Sorority events, etc. Charity events draw civic-minded sistas who are probably conscious, generous and have some money to spend on people they believe in. I like those kind of women.
At the end of the day, be what you seek. And then go and do what you do. And you will run into women who match your vibe.
