The problem is that the average NY rapper thinks they can make a living, just rapping in NY. It's not so much laziness as much as it is NY has been a very insular environment and a decade or so ago, that statement would have been true. This is not so much the case now, outside of Joey B@d@$$ all of NY's most popular rapper's don't even have an East Coast sound.

fab got more money and status than every rapper you named there so what are you talking about?

action bronson and meyhem lauren got they own tv show on vice i was watching it the other day

nore coming out with his own tv show, ghostface is doing everything, nas is doing everything, jay-z and diddy are the biggest figures in rap, mobb deep always doing shyt and tours year round all across the world, nicki minaj biggest female rapper in history

damn near everyone i named is richer than the rappers you listed in the OP. why would they any of them want to be the migos or plies? :mjlol: you nikkas are retarded...

:russell: It's a combination of things, the music just isn't that good, period. The notion that there are all these hidden superstars in these ny streets held back by x y z is bullshyt. The city is dead culturally, everything we make is just a generic rendition of other regions shyt, some of these nikkas making decent block music for their block but nothing that is going to shake the game

Seems like they're the only region as a whole that does not treat their profession.... like a real job.

All the other excuses ( NYC has no sound, stuck in a time warp, no unity, etc.) are far less valid than this.

If any average NYC rapper had the work ethic of a Boosie,Migos,Plies or a Yo Gotti...they'd be the biggest thing ever.

Fabolous is probably the biggest example of this shyt....got the work ethic of fukking Jay Electronica, but stays in the club and taking the jersey game to levels nobody will ever reach

instead of working, they're on twitter wanting to know if you'd rather have a retarded son, or a gay son for years.

it's really gotten to the point that their output is so low, i can't even shyt on them anymore

If these dudes stopped being lazy, and quit believing they should be handed things simply cause they're NYC rappers..... where would they be? :patrice:

let's discuss

Ain't you from the West coast? Is this thread meant to be ironic or is Kendrick and Tyga really holdin you down that well?

Fab puts out 1-2 projects a year though

What is this thread even about really?

You know why i'm here :shaq:

But as a whole, them dudes are flat out lazy....and that's probably the best reason for why the decline of NYC rap is what it is.

The South, and West Coast just outwork them dudes....even if cats feel like rappers from them regions don't make the best music, aren't as skilled as rappers.... they're working. in the clubs, dropping music, booked shows in all the places most rappers won't go.

Why do you even care when you don't like east coast music? Focus on your coast.

It's not about work ethic.

There are a lot of artists who work really hard, but drop nothing but wack shyt. If more of these guys were lazy, our ears would be spared of the bullshyt. LOL!! I think the problem with NYC right now, is there's no identity. The few dope MC's you could list all sound alike. Everyone else sounds like whatever trendy sound is hot in other regions at the time. Back when the "keep it real" movement of the early to mid 90's was heavy, you had more of an authenticity that artists pushed for. After awhile, we lost substance for image-based music. There's also a serious lack of development. There aren't any legends overseeing careers of the new generation or mentoring, like back in the days. Who could any of these dudes learn from? No one is a protege anymore. First track you ever hear from a dude and he's already a "boss". So no fundamentals are being passed down. NYC's scene has basically become the blind leading the blind.
