A lot of these ATL nikkas is trash Bruh work ethic?? How hard is it to make racket and mumble lmaoooo only on this site nikkas swear ATL is crazy with music when really a lot of NYC nikkas clown on the south on the reg:russ::lolbron::comeon:every south rapper literally last 2 years than nikkas forget bout em

I can't respect any entertainer, regardless of whether it's rap or not, what doesn't put quality in their craft. How do you expect me to respect half assed music or an entire project made in less than a day (literally!) And it sounds rushed?

Sitting in a pissy hallways with a honeycomb speaker, rapping 2000 bars of the so called "NY Struggle" when, record offices are right down the street.

None of the NY artist don't know how to evolve let alone be creative in this era. NY rap is dead!

Cause Yo Gotti and Plies forever have shows booked.

Fab just be hanging out, combing 90s movies and sitcoms for jerseys.
plies just became relevant again in the mainstream because of social media, fab is almost 20 years deep and probably gets paid just as much if not more then plies for making club appearances and drops music whenever he wants to, plies dropped like 3 mixtapes last year and it took a gimmick for him to finally get a hit :mjlol:

gotti has been grinding for years and it's finally paying off so I'll give you him

All OP presented was the theory. He didn't present any type of support to back it up.

Is it possible that laziness is to blame for current state of NYC rap? Sure, but it could also be due to host of other reasons too. That's why evidence needs to be supplied alongside the hypothesis.

Personally, I don't think it's just one variable that has caused NYC rap scene to decline.

thing is, Plies never stopped getting shows even when the radio hits stopped... it wasn't like he just stopped working and became a professional social media user like some rappers.

This is pretty much spot on....to be fair though, it would be hard for a regular person to go from making 80k a year working 40 hours a week to making 40k a year working 80 hours a week, which is essentially what happened in the rap game the last 10-15 years.

So you can call that laziness or maybe they just looking at it like the juice might not be worth the squeeze, so to speak.

Great analogy!

I still don't know why people expect NY to be 90 % of all rappers when the city represents 2.5 % of the nation, the south represents like 40 %. You mentioned 4 rappers from 4 different states, and act like they are from the same hood.

Compare regions to regions, states to states or cities to cities.

This is really the problem, why is it New York City versus the whole South?

Future has put out the same amount of albums,in the past 12 months than he's put out mixtapes since 2014.

Since this dude is relatively new to the masses, he isn't classed in the lazy ass NYC rappers yet.

if those mixtapes were financed by him and not Mass Appeal, then it can get expensive no? i would say hes the epitome of the new school in the city, and is far beyond lazy. dude had a kid 2 days ago and performing on tour again already.

There's two sides here in NY. There's the street artists and there's the underground.

Street rappers are still following the old model: street buzz-->radio-->majors. They're trying to go through Flex and get a million dollar deal.

The young underground rappers know that radio isn't fukking with them so they bypass it altogether and go through the internet. They put out videos, generate a buzz on the blogs, do a few mixtapes, and go indie.

Troy grinds but he's been unsuccessful in turning that into sales. NY is not fukking with him like that and I can't say he works the hardest because he doesn't tour at all. He just has people like Ebro and Rosenburg at Hot 97 who will play his records a little and promote him. Dave East is buzzing here but I'm guessing he's looking to blow and get mainstream looks eventually.

The hardest working guys here are Joey Badass/Pro Era, ASAP, and Flatbush Zombies. You might think I'm crazy for saying that but check the numbers. They tour nonstop and do huge festivals globally. They sell tons of merch. Their grind has translated into sales. Joey's album did 200k and the Zombies just put their first album out the other day and it's #1 on ITunes. Check YouTube and they have multiple videos over a million. Two Pro Era mc's just dropped albums and are about to tour the US and overseas.

Street guys like Maino, Troy, etc are the epitome of local. The "weirdos" have lapped them without getting the machine behind them. There's far more opportunities for them and it's better to organically build a loyal fanbase than a few fairweather fans who liked your single.
