It's not completely analogous to assists, but the idea is the same. The goal is to remove as much "noise", or things out of the player's control, from the process.

. Assists are intended to measure how well you set your teammates up, not how good your teammates are at making shots. I'm sure people will be more receptive to things like this when find a way to make them benefit a person they like
