Is 26 pounds heavy for a bike?

Its def up there. I have a POS Trek 1000 from the 90s, no bueno. Prob weighs a good 27-28lbs.

Yeah, I'd 26 lbs is pretty heavy. When I first started riding, I didn't think anything of bike weight. My Bianchi weighs 18 lbs. and I can surely tell the difference.

I want to step up to the cantilever brakes!:ohlawd:

@GinaThatAintNoDamnPuppy! since you seem like the resident bike connoisseur let me ask you this question. I recently got a hybrid, think its a 18 speed. I'm mostly riding on a flat terrain with some hills so I was looking for the optimal setting for my gears to get the most resistance. Right now I believe I have the left shifter set at 3, and the right at 5 as I read that was going to give me the best ride for this terrain, but half the time I just start gliding and am not really getting a good ride in :why:

Brehs who ride bicycles, do you have to wear a helmet?

:scust:

They have some pretty nice bike trails around me but I grew up in that era where you didn't have to wear those goofy helmets. I think it's a law now.

Biking would be a different and good form of exercise but riding around with one of these

If you never had a bike growing up, my bad yall. :wow:

the helmets look goofy until your noodles are spilled all over the ground. Id rather look stupid than dead.

yeah one boy my age just got locked up for killing some dude. but theres no reason for people to be cycling on main roads at all. people are getting hit every week. its not funny at all.

The main roads, get you to where you are supposed to go. That's why they are the 'main' roads. Bike are not supposed to ride on the sidewalk, that is for pedestrians. A bicycle is a mode of transportation, i.e a scooter, moped, which are smaller modes of transportation than that of a motorcycle or vehicle. If a bike is not supposed to ride on the street, or a sidewalk then where exactly would you propose a person ride a bicycle?

State law highly recommends it but doesn't make it mandatory. You're more likely to be ticketed for riding at night without lights on your bike than for not wearing a helmet. State law mandates having lights on your bike if you ride at night. I'm willing to bet that unless they bike themselves, most policemen are clueless about bike laws.

on the path with pedestrians. the fukking road is no place for a bicycle. thats why so many cyclists are getting killed and hit.

Breh people are so clueless...bike laws state a cyclist can ride anywhere a vehicle can and pretty much have the same rights to the road. You are to ride close to the sidewalk but not on it unless you wish. Vehicles are to wait until they are able to and then pass you at a safe distance.

Riding on the those sidewalks and in that grass on the side of the roads will shorten the life of your tires. Don't know about most dudes here, but I taught myself how to do all the maintenance on my bike including changing tires and innertubes. It's not something you wanna have to do every few weeks if you can help it.....ok that's a bit of an exaggeration but you get my point. Unless your tires are some super el cheapos you shouldn't be changing your tires anywhere near that often regardless of abuse...:mjlol:

When in doubt google your state's bike laws and know your rights.....

Cyclists get hit and killed off the main road too....it's happening because people do not look out for cyclists at all...kats despise even using their signal lights these days because they have a cell phone to their heads or are just plain lazy...

i wear a helmet now fukk it. i look like a piece of shyt but i was on some steep trail and busted my ass and hit my head pretty hard while wearing a helmet
i was like ok im def always wearing this shyt from here on out :whoa:

i also wear this shyt under my bball shorts

Men-Bicycle-Cycling-Bike-Short-Underwear-3D-Padded-Coolmax-New.jpg

nothing scarier than having ur dikk and taint go numb and fall asleep mid ride n resuscitating it back to life while ppl ride by looking at u like :dahell:

You've got to quit wearing the padding. Thats for fat people and people who ride minimally per year. It's enough to make it so your ass or nuts wont hurt during one ride, but if you are out there more than 3 times in a month, you shouldn't rock any padded shorts or anything because your body get used to your seat.

:mjlol: i only see cacs wearing a helmet
act like a helmet is gonna save your life if you get hit by a car brehs :heh:

Only see cacs wearing a helmet? I see plenty of black males (sorry I just dont see that many black females on bikes) rock helmets. We care about our lives.
Everyone has an equal opportunity to get hit by a car. Helmet or not. the helmet is going to determine who gets to tell the story a week later or post it on the coli.

What's a good price point where you start to see quality bikes?
I think I might buy one this summer @GinaThatAintNoDamnPuppy!

A bike is a bike. Take it from someone who has fixed up a bike from the 70's and gotten his hands on a $2200 mens road bike that could be lifted by a toddler because it is so effing light. At the end of the day it comes down to comfort and style. For instance index shifters, friction shifters, bar end, tube top, dropped bars you can really customize a bike to your preference. A fully customized bike that you like can be found for less than $500 especially if you by cheap and add on your own accessories, and for instance what you cannot do, find a local bike shop to do for you.

@GinaThatAintNoDamnPuppy! since you seem like the resident bike connoisseur let me ask you this question. I recently got a hybrid, think its a 18 speed. If you are just gliding then you will want to change your left shifter to 2 or decrease the right shifter to 3, 2 or 1. It sounds like you want more control over your cadence. The huge gears are cool because you will get your mph up and like you say glide with just a few pushes of the pedal but you have to find your gear which will allow you to amount of speed for the amount of power that you put into it, and that is different for everyone.

Its kind of like sprinting, someone with long legs might take long strides, whereas someone with short legs will have shorter strides and more steps. No two runners with the same leg length are the same but they might be similar.

Thanks dawg :myman:

I have like this 4 mile strip of street near my crib. There are times when I want to just glide over that beast @ over 20 mph, then there are times when I was just want to work on my cadence, push, pedal and pull (im clipped in to my pedals) so I stay within range where every stroke matters.

Changing gears on a bike becomes like changing gears driving a manual transmission, you'll know where you need to be and when without thinking about it.
