Brehs, would you support the NBA changing the rules to keep players in school longer?

ATL…overly
That's just it though. A team would never use the minors when it comes to a draft pick they get, especially a high one. They'd just do what they do now, negating any purpose of the D-League. Why have LeBron beast in A ball when you already know he'll beast at the pro level?

Besides, coaches don't like having players in D-League because many feel the best place to learn is with the big boy squad, even if you're not playing. That's why even highly picked projects rarely even go to D-League, even if the playing time would benefit them and give them confidence.

I think the entire system needs to be overhauled & redesigned. Players would be more willing to play in the bball minors if they knew they could truly get a chance to develop. Not everybody is going to be LeBron, Kobe or KG. Some of these kids aren't ready mentally, physically or emotionally to be in the NBA. Why sacrifice the potential of hundreds of kids (& the game of basketball) when we could come up with a better solution & better product?

The athletes in basketball are physically superior to where they were a generation ago, but the on court product is weaker. We gotta switch it up breh

You can pick bums, I just went by the list you provided. And of course you're gonna find bums that did not benefit from college, I already acknowledged that GMs are gonna throw money at height no matter what, and I'll add that they'll throw money at "potential" too :snoop:

And if we wanna talk about championship teams, Wade, Pierce, Allen, Duncan, Shaq, Rondo, Kidd went to college, either leaders or crucial parts to their respective championship teams. We could add in Parker, Pau and Manu, who got preparation playing high-level basketball before entering the L, which is really -in my case- what this discussion is about. Leaders or crucial contributors to championship teams who went from HS to the L are Lebron, Kobe, Garnett, Perkins, Bynum, Chandler...maybe we can put Dirk in because he only played in Div 2 in Germany before going to the L. I think we can agree that Bron and Kobe are just out-of-this world athletes and/or have insane talent, and the 4 other guys are big guys. Two of which (Perkins and Chandler) could've have benefited of a couple of years in college to work on some moves...and we'll see if we ever see Bynum again :to:

I think that you're missing the point completely. You're somehow equating college coaching somehow to this incredible growth and development. IMO, players benefit more from pro level camps and practices. There's this misconception that the Calipari's of the world are making men out of boys, and honing the skills of young players, when in fact they're not doing anything that NBA coaches couldn't do better.

Once you get past the whole Hoosiers pie in the sky farce, you'll see it as a simple case of exploitation. NCAA is mad that they didn't get their free niccas. Bron, Kobe, Tyson etc , would've have been the same players if they had attended college. Just would've been poorer. Players union leadership consist mostly of old niccas on their last contract. They're not in any rush to have these young bucks push them out, so they caved, but lets be clear, the whole one and done thing is BS.

No. I think its a waste of time, money spent by colleges, and potential money earned by graduating HS seniors looking to go pro.

I think the reason why they didn't or don't have a legit minor league system like baseball and hockey is because a bball team don't need THAT many players or lower level systems to be honest

Go back to drafting 18 yr olds... if they bust, they bust

Theres no guarantee that GMs will get it right even if the age limit was 23

fukk NCAA... if a kid wants to be a pro baller let him go they can always go back and earn a degree

TBH I didn't even take into account the monetary aspect of which you guys are def more informed than I am, so I don't have a "anti-NCAA" angle. shyt I grew up watching a lot of college basketball and it seems that the level there either isn't all that anymore.

It's just that on strict basketball perspective an NBA season is extremely long, those kids have tons of pressure to not be busts, have to learn to live on their own while managing millions of dollars etc...and I don't think that teams have all that time to invest in long-term projects (how many of these so-called "prospects" or "projects" or "guys with potential" actually end up being great players?)...all I'm saying is that as kids and players some could benefit from more guidance and less pressure at college.

My main point is that I feel that a lot of these players are coming in the League a lil too early, now if it's going overseas or playing in the D-League or whatever, I'm all for that, it's just that it seems to me that some players could really use some more preparation before playing for millions, with pressure to perform and having to handle their business as teenagers or young adults. I'm just under the impression that players were more league-ready when they got to the L before.

Anyway if dudes want that money and GMs are ready to give it to them...I guess they might as well go and get it. As a fan, I just feel that the overall quality of the game has gone down, but I don't really have a say in it anyway :manny:

they need to work on their fundamentals

i say send them d-league for a year and then draft your players

D-league would be relevant but also the NBA would have more polished prospects to choose from.
