Wolves win the home opener
. 1-0
First quarter and a half: excellent. 2nd- middle of 3rd: awful. 4th- did just enough. I'll take the W any way possible.
The good:
We held them to 80 points. Start betting the unders brehs. They shot 36% from the field, 3-16 from 3. We had 10 blocks.
Jose Jordan Barea: 21 points, 4 boards, 5 dimes, +28. When he was in there we couldn't be stopped.
Stiemsma: 9 points, 7 boards, 4 blocks +16 in 16 minutes. That is what we're paying for. Excellent work, Really picked up Pek.
Dante Cunningham: 7 points, 9 rebounds, +21. Hustle player and he really held it down out there, Loved what I saw.
The bad:
We only shot 37% and were 2-17 from 3. It's the first game. They'll make those as the season progresses but everyone was off tonight. Let's not make a habit of this.
Pek: 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2-8 FG. Pek's gonna be a marked man now. He must produce night in and night out. I think he can handle it short term, but it wasn't his night. What makes it worse is that Cousins was in foul trouble so he couldn't take advantage (though because of that they had a better defender on him). Gotta do better.
Derrick Williams: 8 points, 7 rebounds, yet he did all of that in the first 12 minutes or so in the game and then he was ghost. He's gotta be better than this in the time he has. The front court did not play well at all but luckily our bench held it down.
Lastly, what was Rick thinking as he just sat there and watched an 18 point lead slip? This is the first game of the year with almost a brand new team. Gotta be wise there Rick. Rare misstep.
All in all, take the W. Enjoy first place
and move on.
