This wasn't half bad. It definitely took it there. 9/10

This was more of a thriller/suspense with horrific elements. If there's any horror to it, it's body horror. I'm still trying to figure out what happened lol. They didn't really explain the stuff at the beginning even though you can infer what happened, I would have liked to hear more about how she found this solution and who those other people were at the start of the film. But I was entertained. I was surprised at some of the choices they made. Pretty grim movie. 7/10

There was apparently a whole viral marketing thing with a fake black market (kinda like the Deep Web) where different ritual items, tapes, etc. could be viewed.

Not that it spelled out exactly what was going on but it gave a bit more back story as to how Laura got the VHS.

Anyway, I thought this movie was dope and a step up from "Talk To Me" (which I liked a lot) except I prefer the ending to the former better.

Side note, did anyone have trouble seeing this in theaters? I was in KCMO and it was either showing at really odd times (1:30 pm, 10 pm, etc.) or some theater chains (like Cinemark) flat out never even showed it. The movie flopped in theaters, this might be why. It's distribution seemed to be all over the place.

Way too many A24 duds in a row, plus being released on the lazy day of May after Memorial Day weekend didn't help things.

I think the only A24 movie that bombed last year was Love Lies Bleeding but I'll check on it, they got a few more this year.

This movie did $23 million on a $15 million budget. No idea why it cost so much. "Talk To Me" had a budget of $4.5 million and did $92 million.

Like I said this movie wasn't showing often (or in some cases, at all) around me and I'm curious why that is. "Talk To Me" had multiple showings at pretty much every theater within 20 miles of me. I seen that in theaters, this movie I wasn't able to.

A lot of A24 movies made money, except Opus, which bombed, but they ain't making the money they made last year.

Missed the theatre run and only just managed to catch this. God damn :picard:

That little kid needs to coddled and given all the PlayStation time he needs. God damn was that a creepy performance.

Yeah I could understand Sally Hawkins character but at the same time, you dastardly bytch:francis:

This struck a good balance of trying to be a good enough dramatic story but also having those freaky elements. Honestly, there are very few examples of properly walking that tight rope. Ari Aster has generally been good at this but his characters are not sympathetic at all. I’m thinking of Midsommar. Great movie but I could not give a fukk about anybody. I really felt bad for this kids this here.

I’m in for whatever comes next. These dudes cooking with koala grease.
