I was reading the article here: http://www.people.com/article/britt...rain-cancer?xid=socialflow_facebook_peoplemag

Truly a sad situation all around. Yes, I know, people die everyday but this one kind of hit home to me. To be told that you have terminal illness and there is nothing that you can do about it, would definitely make a lot of people feel scared. This woman decided to take matters into her own hands. I can't fault her for that as its her body and she knew how she wanted to spend her last days.

The question or rather questions I have for everyone here is that do you think she made a selfish choice? Do you think she committed suicide? Would this be something you would do if you was in her shoes?

Very inspirational. She's my hero.

She has opened up the country and world to a very a taboo subject in the US which could lead to laws being implemented to help people in her situation.
She made the choice that was right for her, it's not about selfish or not selfish. Suicide is just a label grounded in religion. I'm not sure but I would want the ability to. We all need to die.

R.I.P. Brittany Maynard

Not to sound insensitive but what's the difference between her and the avg Joe/Jane who can't muster the strength to carry on and feel like the weight of the world has broken them and commit suicide?? Anyone else does this and they're called selfish and/or coward??

You're serious?

It seems really bizarre that people think they should have the ability to police whether someone else wants to live or not. This woman was terminally ill and she has the right to do what she sees fit. Even if she wasn't terminally ill, she should have the right to do what she sees fit. While Maynard didn't commit suicide, suicide is not a cowardly act, as some people posit -- after all, you have to overcome millions of years of evolutionary conditioning for self-preservation. And every suicide represents some collective failure on our part because people see conditions as being so onerous that they're pushed to do that.

well you do sound insensitive if your brain cannot sympathize with someone who has terminal, inoperable brain cancer and decides to end their life on their own terms before cancer completely ravages their body and soul.

There aint one. Both feel they have no life worth to live, cant get the help they want/need and rather than suffer through the rest of their miserable days, they'll end their own life.
Then again, maybe both could find a way and change their lives, folks lived through having ebola, right?

Allow me to be further insensitive:
Was she a donor? Even though she had cancer, I hope there's something of her others can use to better their circumstances.
Was she working? someone might get a job and better their circumstances as a result.

Death is life and life is death brehs. Our time will come eventually.

Im not saying she was wrong in her decision due to the circumstances. You seem to be hung up on that fact as justification. No one has that right to play God.
It is justification, it's why she did it. You don't have the right to tell other people what they do and don't have the right to do. You can do with your body what you please as long as you don't hurt other people. She decided to end her own life, she has that right.

And all i'm saying is that folks don’t need justification for suicide after successfully doing it. Do the dead give a shyt if their death was 'justified'?
