yea he needs to be added to the deal if they giving up the arms dealer
Not exactly how negotations work considering the fact that the US doesn't have much leverage in the situation considering that Russia would be perfectly fine with both Bout and Griner sitting in jail.

If Putin was smart he would make a show of it convict her for 10 years but then send her back to America (hey it’s illegal out here but we don’t want to interfere in American issues no harm no foul) and then it’s Biden’s move after that

I wanna know how many carts she was carrying.

Even in US states where weed is illegal like Ohio. You can get caught with 100 ounces and only face a year in prison.

10 years is crazy
In Texas any concentrated THC(vapes, dabs, edibles, drinkables, etc.) is considered a controlled substance and you will catch a felony for it. Even if you caught with just 1 vape it's a felony. I know several people who have caught them charges, it's why I don't recommend anyone carry those vape pens around. The laws know what that shyt is.

doesnt matter what the US did, the prisoners are not of equal threat/gravity/etc. you don't let a murderer go in exchange for a shoplifter, add on the fact that it's celebrity driving this deal, it looks worse. but as i stated in my OP...maybe this whelean guy is really who's worth the swap to them
Griner is just a big name for the headlines that will be waived when the trade is completed. Whelan is the real asset here. It will interesting to see how Russia responds, which will tell us more about how much value Whelan has.

And like @mastermind said Viktor Bout is a known entity and I'm sure there are 20 more new Viktors that filled his spot already :hubie:

Happy she coming home but just like everything else in America nothing gets done unless white people are benefiting

Her black ass wouldn’t be getting released by herself

He's been rotting in prison there for four years breh, her situation is literally the impetus to finally get him released. :why:

His family is thinking right now, "Oh, they couldn't get our father released all this time but the second a Black person is involved they complete the deal in a couple months!"

her life isn't in danger, it may be derailed with a jail sentence, but she's not dying unlike the people who died due to the work of this arms dealer. you're really advocating for a dude who supplied arms to terrorist organizations, that have taken the lives of countless citizens in africa and the middle east, to go free in exchange for a hooper? sit your silly ass down.

I wasn't in favor of releasing the arms dealer for her but the bolded is 100% false. Russian prisons are absolute cesspools of disease and mistreatment, antibiotic-resistant TB runs rampant there along with other diseases. Doing 5-10 years there could easily be a death sentence.

Three quarters of prisoners in Russia have a serious disease such as tuberculosis and AIDS or another illness, the country's ministry of justice admitted last month.

About 74 000 prisoners are infected with tuberculosis, 36 000 are HIV positive, 26 000 have syphilis, and 1500 have hepatitis, said Alla Kusnezowa, deputy director of the ministry's department for sentence execution.

Also, a third of the country's 820 000 prisoners have mental health problems, and almost all prisoners take drugs.

The grim statistics highlight the poor conditions that prevail in Russia's prisons more than 10 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Human rights campaigners warn that overcrowding, malnutrition, and lack of hygiene have made prisons a breeding ground for disease.

And in case you don't think the Americans detained there are going through that:

I honestly don't see how they're even thinking of doing this deal considering the fact shyt has the potential to backfire and go really bad. You'd be naive as hell if you think that Viktor Bout is going to go on the straight and narrow path once he's exchanged. He's going to go back and do the same thing that he was doing before.

Let some shyt pop off with him even some semblance of being involved in it and watch how those Republicans clamoring for Griner to get released change up and use it for their agenda.

Bout has been out of the game for 15 years, everything he was involved with got wrapped up or taken over by others, and he's already gotten caught once. Plus he's likely lost a lot of trust in the community considering how many contacts might worry now that he's too known at this point and being traced and followed. I'd be surprised if he could still make a dent, at worse he's just going to divert business from someone else.

I'm more worried about the precedent. I don't think arms dealers should get let off in order to satisfy other agendas, and I don't think Russia should be rewarded for imprisoning Americans. It incentivizes future bad behavior.
