"A year ago, Brooklyn agreed on a full midlevel-exception deal with Euro forward Mirza Teletovic on a three-year, $15.7 million contract. Shortly after the agreement, Brooklyn realized it needed to alter the exception slot to still keep open the chance for cutting a trade for Dwight Howard. Without re-entering the market, Teletovic accepted a three-year, $9 million deal at the mini midlevel."

Nah son something crooked going on. :laff:

:what: If he were in the prime of his career, you might have an argument. But he's 32 sacrificing money to be on a contender.

Guys do this all the time and nothing is said.

Guys don't sacrifice 70% of their income, especially when there are offers from similar or better quality teams (Spurs) that are almost thrice what he got from Brooklyn.

With AK-47 on the team now the Nets are arguably the 2nd best team in the L. Sometimes a ring can do wonders for your career, especially in an era lacking such quality big men.

:aicmon:

Spurs don't even have "thrice" the cap space to sign Kirilenko. They spent that money re-signing Manu & Splitter. That put them over the cap without even counting the Bellini deal or the cap holds they have with Gary Neal and DeJuan Blair.

Only way they were getting Kirilenko for 9 million was through a sign and trade.

Y! SPORTS

The Spurs seriously considered a multiyear offer for Kirilenko, but Minnesota general manager Flip Saunders has shown little, if any, inclination to assist him in securing a significant financial contract elsewhere, sources said.

There were possible combinations of Spurs assets that appealed to the T'wolves, but ultimately Minnesota was unable – or unwilling – to take back the contracts on what could've been an $8 million to $9 million annual salary agreement for Kirilenko, league sources said.
