Yo, I def agree with the over diagnosing racket. Big Pharm has a play in a lot of this. ADHD, along with autism breh. I'm "woke" enough to know that. I gots the Googles too man. You gotta watch how they do young Black kids... putting them on IEPs and 504 plans due to "behavioral" issues... It's pretty much an epidemic, and a crisis for Black kids in public schools.
ADHD is definitely overdiagnosed. In my experience being around other kids with Aspergers, it's underdiagnosed in Black folks, especially young black men and if you're milder like me it's become much harder to get diagnosed. If you're not disruptive in class you tend to fall through the cracks which I did all throughout school and I only had one teacher who ever suspected anything (and that teacher was a Black man). I didn't get diagnosed until I was 20. I got lucky I was diagnosed when I did. It opens you up to a lot of benefits that you may not get being diagnosed with ADHD unless your it's severe.
No lie man. My wife thinks I have Aspergers. I'm an INTJ... When I was 6, I could take kitchen appliances apart and rebuild them.
I have to watch Jeopardy every weekday @ 7 or I get the bubble guts. (Yeah like fukking Rainman and People's Court)
Lol. When I was 7-8 I could name the starting lineups of every team in the NBA and what college each player went to. Also I was upgrading and setting up my parents computers when windows 95 came out.
That's the thing. I'm not great with vague hints most of the time. Sometimes I get it. Other times I get annoyed. Id rather not date at the moment to be real.
I'm not either and it makes the dating game so much harder. Plus in the back of my head since I'm aware of my Aspie weakness and when I can have moments I spend half the time protecting my own vulnerability or trying not to come off as off in any way.
It's not a mental illness, it's a developmental disorder. The parts of our brain responsible for social awareness lacks in those with Aspergers Syndrome. Their executive functioning (higher level cognition) such as decision making can be difficult too because of hesitation towards changes in routine. An assessment is done to figure out whether or not someone has it. However most of the time they are high functioning over achievers due to their particular attention to detail.
^^^ This and also there can be some not so obvious physical signs as well. Poor motor coordination, clumsiness etc. For example I'm the guy who can dance his ass off but occasionally trip over myself if I'm not careful. Also, I have awful balance and I never learned how to skate, ride a bike, ski or anything like that.
