It's digusting that many black men are so thirsty for a leader that a whole industry has cropped up. Umar, Tariq, Tommy, Polight...list is a mile long of people who started with some BS, began fetishizing our history, and realized they could capitalize on a weak, misguided group subgroup of people.

It's sad.

I love seeing my black brethren achieve independence and build each other with business they own. I actually cofounded and operate an internet radio station designed to help mostly black artist get their music to a majority black audience. I network with other independent black business owners all the time. Check out BYNKRadio.com when you have a moment.

What I am not okay with is someone like Umar believing he's above question and pimping a cause without producing results or even a plan for results. Or Polight being a known plagiarist selling a service he has know proof of expertise in. These are the worse people because they misguide their own for a quick dollar.

Garvey was an example of a man who sold a quality product to his own, while showing ways to become financially independent.

:mindblown:

Getting money from other groups and pumping it into our community is something when need to be doing.

What is knowledgeable about Polight? He is a plagiarist.

Malcolm X - didn't pimp his people for a dollar. Was an activist, wasn't selling BS books and scam services.

MLK - didn't pimp his people for a dollar. Was an activist, wasn't selling BS books and scam services.

You see the difference? If someone truly cares about their cause their first thought will not be for-sale-tickets for speaking tours, books that pimp our history for a buck, and "membership" clubs completely unrelated to our issues or financial independence. They won't think "let me line pockets" they think "how can I use these resources to further my people's cause.

Now if someone isn't an activist, then it's cool, do what you want. But be upfront be play that you are a businessman that is selling a product. Not "Buy my stuff because I'm black and I pretend to be an activist."
You're deflecting. You're on that crab in the barrel c00n shyt. Using the term "pimp" to describe black men doing legitimate business inside the community. I don't believe anything you say. You're working for the other team.

The problem that you have, is you view selling independent merchandise to a black audience as "pimping" an audience, as if you have a monopoly on knowledge and these brothers offer nothing, because YOU say so smh.

2nd, for whatever reason you believe you can set the standard for what an activist is. And then you assume those who have accumulated wealth do nothing to give back, which is as far as I know and have researched is not true at all.

As far as Dr king and malcolm x, they were in fact activist, who both died close to broke, leading to their families bearing the brunt of responsibility for their debts and trying to keep their heads above water. To do so, both their families respectively have had to resort to use their dead father/husband names to accumulate wealth, which becomes no different than selling dvds and books, touring etc. I guess malcolm and martin families are pimping black people using martin and malcolm names smh

Marcus garvey wasn't broke, Elijah muhammad wasn't broke, yahweh ben yahweh wasn't broke, noble drew ali wasn't broke, and I can argue their contributions to black people far surpasses that of king and malcolm. And their is a specific reason the media never wants to speak of these brothers. To speak of them would give the "crazy" notion that you can aid your people a lot better when you have the resources. Your supposed to make money from your own people. In fact we are the only ones who struggle with this concept, which is why we are in the position we are in economically around the globe.

We are in the position we are in because we don't hold those that extract resources from our community accountable. Whites, asians, indians, hell even latinos know they can set a store in the goldmine known as the black neighborhood and we will patronize the store. That is a problem considering the inverse isn't true. We let drug dealers and pimps operate in our neighborhoods with impunity, which facilitates the destructive cycle set in place by the power structure. Many of us do not protect and provide in our own communities and some leave broken homes and use sex as an opiate to deal with their problems. If we unite and use the power of our dollars properly we would be the most prosperous group in the diaspora in less than 20 years.

I don't have a problem with independent selling of merchandise to blacks. I sell services to black people. I think more of us should use group economics to uplift each other but as I stated earlier, sell a good product! Not some contrived, plagerized BS like Polight does. Selling BS to your people be it drugs, scams, or false hope, does nothing but damage us as a people.

MLKs likeness certainly gets pimped he's been shown in all sorts of advertisements for companies that have racist hiring practices. His family has shown they are trying to cash in on his legacy.

I'm not saying you have to be broke to be an activist and fight for your people, you mentioned Garvey which is interesting because I mentioned him as an example of an activist that helped his people and built a thriving business.

I understand, Broke people can't give anyone jobs, people are more likely to follow success. But get money and help your people don't get money selling false help to your people. It can be done as you listed Drew Ali, Garvey, and Muhammad did it. But Polight and Umar aren't those guys, they are snake oil salesman and frauds.

You're deflecting. You're on that crab in the barrel c00n shyt. Using the term "pimp" to describe black men doing legitimate business inside the community. I don't believe anything you say. You're working for the other team.

I'm one of those business people that does legit business with other black people. I don't consider myself or most black business people pimps (go to BYNK Radio.com it's my website). But if you take black money under the auspices of creating something great for our people with no plan for a product or implementation and get mad when donors ask for accountability (Umar); or sell books with plagerized materials and make promises of wealth and legal independence that you can't keep (Polight) you're no different then the Pastor pimp that sends the collection plate every Sunday and used the money to buy a new Mercedes.

There are plenty of white people that run scams but I'm not going after them first because they aren't one of us. They make it blantantly obvious they don't care for us. Black people that pimp their own for a buck are the worst kind because they sell their own out under the auspices of "support me because im black." which is fine if you are selling a decent product to your community not scams.
