nah that whole "just make good music" argument dont work because "good" is subjective, and since Ebro chooses the playlist for the cities most popular hip-hop radio station, what he feels is "good" is what gets played. that's the problem. that's what buckshot was getting at him about being the gatekeeper in their interview. Its not about "make good music and you will get played" its about "make music that fits this criteria and you will get played".
True you right, Ebro does control the playlist, in what seems to be a way no one else does. Obviously other NY stations be playing Ross/Wayne/Drake/Kendrick all day too, but Ebro seems like he doesn't add shyt until it's proven - ie AFTER other stations have played it successfully.
But the point remains that a lot of NY stuff doesn't work on the radio. My problem with how Ebro handles NY is that it's a buddy system. They'll play a Maino song, even though he's wack, because he has listened to their advice and is crafting his records to be played on the radio. But NY has some artists who make way better music than Maino, and could be played on air. Ebro has created a Catch 22: you can't be a "major" unless you make catchy music, but even if you make catchy music you can't be a "major" unless he gives you a thumbs up. The people have no say in this.
