Saw it last night, thought it was great. It's interesting how many great filmmakers this year largely ended up touching on the same themes, many of which define modern post-covid America. Eddington, OBAA, Bugonia, Weapons, etc. Paranoia, mass psychosis, conspiracies, the insincerity of white "woke"-ness, etc. Stone and Plemons were really good. The juxtaposition of Stone's emotionless "I hear you" corporate jargon and Plemon's mania was entertaining as fukk. Also liked how grounded Plemons was. Another actor (and perhaps more importantly another director) would have had that character frothing at the mouth from the jump. Really the only thing that didn't feel great was the turn the ending made, but the last few shots (accompanied by that music) felt satisfying despite that.

It felt like a warped imitation of some Sidney Lumet films. Specifically Dog Day Afternoon and Before The Devil Knows You're Dead.

I also though the music score was a major standout. Wavering between triumph, tension, horror.

Don't forget It's a remake of a Korean film

Stone remains a beast, Plemons flexed something serious, and the movie looked great. A few hiccups along the way, but overall a compelling enough watch. The sheriff's character was a weakness of the film. Thought it was more interesting and direct in its focus on the increasing inequity/class wars than some of the major, recent faux-profound flicks.... and the takedown of girl boss culture and the corporate laundering of exploitation via dei sheen was hilarious and well executed.

Lanthimos is hit or miss for me, but respect that he takes chances.

Out here in my damn drawls
She's not one of my favorite actresses but I like her choice in the roles that she takes. She's serious. Poor things was one of my surprise favorites and given her track record, I may go back to finally watch Cruella

Young Philip Seymour came through like always tho :wow:

The subplot with Stavros could've been more fleshed out or left out entirely but with only a 2 hour runtime, it didn't bother me too much

7 out of 10 l. Solid flick
